Bruins prospect Knight to hone leadership skills with London

Knight/By S. Bradley
Bruins 2010 second-round pick Jared Knight is going to have a little more responsibility this season during what should be his last year in London.
The OHL’s Knights yesterday named Knight as one of their permanent alternate captains for the 2011-12 season.
Knight, who is entering his fourth season with London and skated in three games for Boston’s Providence (AHL) farm club last season, has shown a desire to add leadership duties to his role on the team he scored 25 goals and 70 points for last season.
Even before he left for Bruins training camp, Knight was paired off with prized London prospect Max Domi, the son of former NHL star Tie, as roommates. Knight and Domi are both diabetic, so they’ll be able to lean on one another in that regard this season.
In addition, Knight can lend Domi some veteran advice while practicing serving as a mentor for a possible role in the Bruins’ organization as not just a power forward but a player others look up to.
“For me, it’s my fourth year in the league, in the OHL. So I kind of have to lead him,” Knight told me last month during rookie camp. “It’s his first year and I remember what it was like coming into the league and I was a little scared and a little timid out there. So I’m just telling him to have fun with it and it goes by pretty quick, so just enjoy it.”
For those wondering, Knight has had time to chat with Max’s dad Tie about life as an NHLer. Any amount of extra toughness that could rub off from Tie Domi, an eight-time 200-plus-PIM player in his day, can only benefit Knight the same way his words and actions will benefit the younger Domi.

The B’s might let Kelly walk, but they are going to try hard to sign Krejci. I’ve said before that I like Bergeron’s all-around skills better, but as an offensive centre Krejci’s talents are top end. If you think you can just plug another centre into Lucic and Horton and things will turn up roses, your mistaken. I think Krejci also realizes, for himself, a good situation by being with the Bruins. The deal gets done.
Krejci will be resigned during the year. It’s already being worked on
Krejci is RFA and as much as I like him, I think he is not re-signed because too much center talent in the pipeline that’ll be cheaper.
Excited for the real games! Looking forward to next year already, too.
Knight, Spooner and Hamilton should all make the jump.
Then with Sauve and Caron getting a spot…
I predict PC let’s all the UFA’s walk after this year.
Knight looked tired his first game. Playing better tonight in Plymouth. Domi looks good for a sixteen year old. Had a hat trick in his his first OHL game.
