Bruins done looking back, now looking forward

Bergeron & Corvo chat/By S. Bradley
New Bruins defenseman Joe Corvo endured a weird start to his regular-season Bruins debut.
Just like Boston’s opponents, the Philadelphia Flyers, Corvo hung out in the dressing room while the banner-raising ceremony delayed rolled along for about 40 minutes.
However, unlike the Flyers, Corvo watched the festivities on television.
“I liked when the all the ’72 champs were coming out and the whole team lined up and they were shaking their hands,” said Corvo about his favorite part.
The different start to his night aside — there were no pregame introductions of the current Bruins on opening night — Corvo played pretty well on a night that the Bruins struggled as a team. Corvo logged 23:01 of ice time, recorded an assist and attempted four shots (three were blocked).
The Bruins fell to the Flyers, 2-1, and here’s my game story on NHL.com.
Now it’s time for the Bruins to move on from their celebration of last year and target greater success in 2011-12. As center Patrice Bergeron alluded to, there can be no other thought on the Bruins’ minds.
“It has to be. We’ve faced adversity before. We’re used to that. But that being said, it was a special night and we wanted to get that win and we didn’t do that tonight,” he said.
PatrickD – I agree the Bs started the game well and then disappeared. Looked to me like they started the intermission while there was still acouple of minutes left in the 1st…and those two goals were the game. I also agree about the hitting. I know you are suppose to let up if the guy is in a vulnerable position, but it just didn’t seem like guys wanted to follow through with checks.
Banzai – Thats funny about your statement to your brother, because I think I said basically the same thing. You could definately tell the few players that had come to play and win.
Marchand was a true joy to watch and made things happen everytime he step on the ice. Seguin looked good to me as well, and I hope he is ready to step it up this year. I liked that Krejci looked to be shooting more and had some good chances. I also thought Corvo played solidly…something I never really thought from Kaberle, so to me that was a better swap. Just hope it remains so as the season moves on.
Those two quick goals sucked the life out of the Garden. I distinctly remember at one point saying to my brother in the middle of the 2nd period, “I am at least glad that Pevs, Marchy and Timmy decided to come out of the locker room for the period. Now if someone can just send a message to everyone else.” But I agree that Corvo played a pretty solid game overall in his debut. I wasnt sure at first what was going on when I saw a puck come of of the blueline from someone other than Chara on the PP….
The game reminded me of some of the troubles the Bruins had early last year as well. They would play 30 to 40 minutes of really good hockey, in this case the first 10 minutes and the third period, and then disappear for the rest. No one really stuck out for me as being awful except maybe Bartkowski who looked a little overwhelmed at times.
I think with the banner raising and all that has gone on this week the boys seemed a little out of sorts. Was it just me or did it seem like both teams were afraid to hit? I hope this isn’t what the new Shanahan era is going to look like.
