Thornton's back/By S. Bradley

BOSTON — Both the Bruins and San Jose Sharks got off to slow starts this season.

Heading into tonight’s head-to-head match, however, both are coming off emotional victories.

The Bruins downed division rival Toronto Thursday, while the Sharks took care of New Jersey in a shootout last night after tying the game in the closing minute.

It appeared from both teams’ optional morning skates that the goaltending match-up will be Tim Thomas vs. Antti Niemi. The Bruins should be sticking with the forward lines that won their the Maple Leafs game.

Here’s a little of what Joe Thornton had to say about his latest return to Boston. Always so “reflective” that Joe Thornton (Ha!).

Steven Kampfer figures to be in the lineup for the second straight game since returning from a knee injury. He felt fine after his season debut Thursday. As long as Adam McQuaid is out with a neck injury, the sixth defense spot is Kampfer’s to lose. McQuaid says he’s feeling better, but there are still questions about when he’ll be cleared to return.
