Poll result: Seguin soars to Bruin of the Week honors

Seguin/By S. Bradley
Something tells me that with his popularity, Tyler Seguin would win any poll I put up on this blog.
But there’s no arguing that he was deserving of the Bruin of the Week award for last week, and readers of TheBruinsBlog.net made it so.
Who should be the Bruin of the Week?
- Tyler Seguin (71%, 109 Votes)
- Chris Kelly (16%, 25 Votes)
- Milan Lucic (10%, 16 Votes)
- Tim Thomas (3%, 3 Votes)
Total Voters: 153
Seguin was spectacular with the puck in the two games he skated with Milan Lucic and Chris Kelly, as he posted two goals and two assists, including the game-tying goal in the loss to San Jose. So far, he leads the Bruins with 3-6-9 totals, and his plus-7 is even the best on the team. If there was a “sophomore of the year” award, Seguin would be an early favorite in the NHL.
“If claude used him properly maybe we dont have to play so many game sevens.”?
You can’t be serious. We won the Stanley Cup for the first time in 39 years, and people are still inventing things to complain about.
Like Bo said, he’s playing a vastly improved game in all three zones. The kid is also looking pretty jacked – he’s just so much stronger on the puck, you can almost literally see him getting more confident with each shift. Love to see that desire to be great, to improve every day. He obviously had a hugely productive summer, especially considering the circumstances.
I don’t know how some people can still refuse to give the coach his due credit for how he’s handled this situation. Ultimate glory obtained, and a hugely valuable asset has maintained an outstanding developmental trajectory.
I guess some people are just never satisfied.
I don’t understand why anybody in the media has an issue with Seguin? The B’s players, coaches and organization certainly don’t. Hopefully, he’s going to be a Bruins and NHL STAR for a lot of years.
Dupont wrote about the B’s with an “I told you so” undertone most of last season when critical of anybody connected with B’s.
He and the rest of the media types should get over it! The B’s are Champs and have a great group of talent in Boston and growing in Providence, Reading and the minors.
Greg – I remember it completely the other way around. I remember people saying he should be playing way more minutes (probably the same people that say playing him more would have prevented game 7s despite the fact that he only scored in a couple contests), and it wasn’t that people with opposing views were ‘jumping on his every mistake’, I heard rational voices simply stating example of why he wasn’t ready – and he wasn’t.
His play this year compared to last is night and day – and by play, I don’t mean scoring. I mean his play over three zones and in winning puck battles.
Whateva – I’m tired of trying to convince simple truths to simple people.
This Blogg was all over seguin last year. Jumping on every little mistake.Including Matt K.The kid kept his mouth shut and played hockey. If claude used him properly maybe we dont have to play so many game sevens.Thank God for TIM THOMAS.without him claude and peter would be bye bye
The people who were correct were Claude, Cam and PC – he looks like his development is on an outstanding trajectory. He had some struggles during the year, but I doubt we would have won the cup without him – he played such a pivotal role in that TBay series.
The media, bless their souls, are (naturally) largely responsible for both the overzealous love, and the overblown criticism. They gotta write about something, and often sensationalize material way too much in order to attract some eyes, or get a laugh even – hence the “Seguinista” thing, in this particular case. It’s either “he’s the next Stevie Y” or “he’s only got 22 points – looks like he could bust”. The far ends of the scale are a bit silly at this point in time.
Loving the kid, though. Looks like a winner… now I need to decide whether to give up Hall for Seguin in my hockey pool ; ) That kid line in Edmonton is pretty sick… loved watching them take out Lou and the ‘nucks last night!

It made me so nostalgic.
Honesty, I think its the media that called Seguin’s progression as it has played out on the ice, and it is a small number of fanatics that have been over the top with Seguin. That said – I think this all played out LAST year, not this year and we are simply dealing with the ‘ista’ hangover.
Seguin was not all that strong a pro-hockey player last year – plain and simple, and many were calling for him to be on the top line when he was rightfully placed on the pine. People were calling for CJ to be fired b/c he was going to ‘ruin’ Seguin.
Now that we have hindsight on our side – who was more correct? The Seguin hating media, or the fans who wanted him to be better than he was?
For what its worth, Scallopini does have a bit of a point about Seguin and the local hockey media. For example, I love reading MattK’s blog and following his work, and will continue to do so. I am also not a fan that you would consider a ‘nista’ for any player, if you will. That said, Kalman and others do seem to have an issue with ever giving Seguin credit without first bringing up the ‘Seguinista’ pandemonium in a backhanded sort of way. Maybe its just subconscious? Maybe writers are weary of getting attached to him as a player, concerned that he’ll go the way of a Kessel or Thornton. Maybe its just to try and counterbalance whatever fanaticism there is surrounding the kid? (This fanaticism, by the way, has yet to present itself to me anywhere other than the interwebz.)
In regards to KPD, one must remember that this is the same Kevin Paul Dupont who wrote that Joe Thornton deserved to be stripped of his captaincy because he couldn’t produce against MTL in ’03-’04. Granted, Jumbo Joe has always had a knack of shriveling into mediocrity when the games count most, but the dude was playing through that playoff with broken ribs and Hal Gill manning the blue line! So when him and Obnoxious Mike Milbury go out of their way to criticize Seguin and other NHLers, I just take it with a grain of salt.
If the criteria was “Line of the Week” most voters would be happy!
I second Nifty’s motion.
Speaking of Team. That whole Seguinista thing can go to bed.
Hey Scallop – did you bother to READ the post? Try on “If there was a ‘sophomore of the year’ award, Seguin would be an early favorite. That tells me that Kalman (Matt, the media type) is saying Seguin is the best in his class. For crying out loud – unless everyone is dressed head to toe in black & gold 19s, some of you Seguinista types think he’s being slighted.
The kid is good – he’s much improved and he’s been impressive in all aspects. I’ve heard/read every one of those media-types ‘painfully’ declare as much. Heck – seems to me Milbury might be the leading Poobah of all you Seguinistas.
Seguin is getting his props, OK? Now calm down, and concentrate on the TEAM – or maybe you’d rather go back to the days of watching Oates and Cam light up the stat sheets only to go home early each year?
it is so obvious that it pains so many media types in boston to give seguin any credit at all. kalman, dupont, milbury to name a few. the guy is supremely talented and seems to be working hard. not to mention he’s been their best player by a long shot so far this season.
