WILMINGTON, Mass. — After taking a rare mid-week day off yesterday, the Bruins returned to practice today at Ristuccia Arena.
Every healthy player hit the ice, with one minor tweak in the forward lines.
Nathan Horton and Rich Peverley switched places, so that the Brad Marchand-Patrice Bergeron-Peverley line was reunited while Horton was one of four players skating a grey sweater along with Benoit Pouliot, Jordan Caron and David Krejci.
All seven defensemen, including the recovering Adam McQuaid, and two goaltenders also skated.

I wonder if CJ isn’t making a tweak to better match up against his next opponent. The Looch-DK-Horts line matched up terribly against the Habs last year, and perhaps the best strategy is to create our own little rat-bastard line (Marchand-PB-Pev) that will be better than any of the Canadiens’ little rat-bastards and beat them at their own game.
Man – I just despise that team! Them and the nucks – how does anyone root for them?!
Looks to me as if CJ is building 3 very good scoring and tough checking lines for opponents to match up against with no line being a “true” #1, #2, #3? While Kelly wasn’t a career #1 center his line is doing great. Good to see Bergeron’s preseason line back together. The only position that’s still up in the air is left wing on Krejci’s line.
CJ seems to be utilizing all the B’s talent. Once Krejci’s left wing is decided, I think any of the lines could be “any particular game” #1 line, depending on the opponent? Player ice time shouldn’t be an issue if that’s CJ’s thinking.
I will probably take a lot of heat for this, but…I would like to see Krejci center Lucic and Seguin. I know everyone is excited for Kelly, and although I like him, I just don’t feel that he is a number one center. It worked to mix up the lines and give a jolt to the team, especially while Krejci was injured. However, Seguin is the one (IMO) who has gotten Lucic to skate. Now I would love to see what Seguin can accomplish if Krejci was feeding him.
As Steph said, you can’t say Horton’s sliding down the line-up because he’s reunited with Krejci. It’s an effort to have 3 balanced lines, no more meaning to it than that. I’m glad that CJ is willing to mix it up more often than in years past.
Damn, I hope they beat the habs!
I like the look of these lines. Seems to have good balance with defensive strength and scoring touch on each line. Plus with rolling 4 lines, it will be tough for other coaches to match up. Had to shake something up; poor start this year, but there definitely were some good things to build from vs the Sharks. Watch out for a hungry Montreal team on Thursday, hope Philly tires them out tonight.
Horton going to a line with Krejci as is center is not necessarily a slide down the lineup. Pevs played well with Bergy and Marchand at the beginning of the year. Horton with Krejci has usually been good and hopefully they can start again. We have three pretty balanced lines offensively and that line is not a number three line…. Hopefully Pouliot can put the puck in the net though??
I dunno about Caron. He’s been pretty invisible so far. 2 SOG, poor puck possession. Even with the concussion, Horton’s got him beat — though I’ll admit it’s not by much at this point.
gotta wonder about his noggin!
Are you kidding? Have you been watching Horton? He’s skating well and creating great opportunities. Surprised we didn’t see a point out of him in the Sharks game. If anything, he needs to go back to line 1 and Seguin can center 17 18. That’s a line that will be fast paced, big and brutal, and have KILLER scoring chances.
Wow, the Horton slide continues. Is he healthy?
Those game 7 winners give him a ton of leeway with me, but if he isn’t healthy enough to contribute, you need to get him off the ice.
Caron on the wing is better then a 50% Horton.
