Paille/By S. Bradley
Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli offered the following update on forward Daniel Paille on the team’s media Web site this afternoon:
“Daniel Paille has been diagnosed with a broken nose and facial lacerations after the injury he sustained in our game Monday night. He will undergo surgery on Wednesday, November 9 at Mass General Hospital in Boston to repair the injury. Dr. Thomas Dodson will conduct the procedure. Following the surgery, he is expected to be listed as day-to-day.”
Paille was hit in the face with a Steve Staios slap shot in the third period and was helped off the ice. He did not return to the game.

The cage has saved eyes but won’t help in the event of a concussion. In fact there are more concussions now because of the hitting culture in minor hockey due to overprotection. I lived and played during the implement of facial protection. The game changed overnight at the minor levels.
Tom, a cage will do nothing to protect someone from a headshot or a concussion. It will save a few teeth and make the players unrecognizable.
I saw the Paille play on the news. That looked both horrible and painful. Hopefully he recovers fully.
On a side note. If NHL really wants to eliminate concussions and headshots, wouldn’t a full cage mask do a good job on that as it virtually eliminates the headshot since the mask can protect them?
Of course it doesn’t look cool..
And yes I realize that Paille’s visor may not have helped him in this case, but it could have been different and worse.
Hopefully Pouliot and Caron can continue their improvement to pick up the slack.
If Pev can’t go I would like a look at Sauve.
Best Wishes to D.P. that was brutal.
I can’t believe that players who choose not to wear visors look at a play like that or Ference recently or Pronger a few weeks ago and continue to go without a visor.
I admire hockey players for their toughness and fearlessness, but going without a visor just strikes me as stupid.
get well Danny, good luck.
Call up Sauve if Peverley can’t go.
