BOSTON — The Bruins proved they could win without playing their best hockey Thursday night.
Against the three-win Columbus Blue Jackets, they pulled out a 2-1 shootout win at the TD Garden.
David Krejci and Rich Peverley scored in the shootout, while Tuukka Rask made two saves on three shootout attempts.
Here’s my game story for NHL.com.

yeah, its time to lay off of coach Claude, I think that arguement ran out of gas last may & june…..
Yeah, Claude is a bum! I mean just look at how his treatment of Seguin has turned out, he has clearly stunted his developement. And what has he ever won? A cup?!? Please, thats SO six months ago. Worst coach ever!
Last night’s game was the first of the Jackets “Father and Son” road trip. The Jackets played pretty well in front of their Dads.
Sanford didn’t play in goal like it was his first game in 2 years.
PCL & McTeagle, how true about Tuukka. Good ‘W’ for him.
I have to eat humble pie after my comment to trade Peverley and Kelly after the B’s first 10 games.
Silver Lining – this is the kind of game you like to see your team win if they are going to amount to anything. They played to their competition, clearly had lost focus after a long hard string of wins, but still won the match. I think – in the long run – this was a good showing.
I will say – as crappy as the overall game was – it was the best finish we’ve seen this year. The last 5 minutes of regulation, the 4-on-3 OT and the shootout (this coming from a guy that hates shootouts) were hugely entertaining.
Greg – how can you say he’s the worst coach – c’mon.
Since the game sucked so bad – Just want to let everyone know that Kessel has once again folded his tents after being embarrassed by the Bs. A minus 4 last night in another casper the ghost effort.
The 3rd and 4th line were out there a lot, mostly because the top 6 weren’t playing particularly inspired hockey. Good coaches recognize who’s playing well and give them more ice time in a game. I cringed at least once every time the hulk line was on the ice, so I think Claude was doing a pretty good job.
I have had more fun watching paint dry then that game. Thank goodness they won.
Someone tell Claude that in a trap game, you play your 4th line in 1st line minutes AFTER YOU ARE WINNING!
He is still the worst coach.
McT, The Claude definitely rolled 4 lines last night more then any other game so far this year. I haven’t checked the TOI stats for the game, but it certainly seemed to be the case.
Rask was huge. Kampfer was not.
Meanwhile, was it just me, or did it seem like the 3rd line was playing every other shift?
Except for Rask, McQuaid, and Seguin,we looked pretty terrible especially the Krejci line, who seemed to think we had last night off. McQuaid made a few excellent plays, and Seguin while not scoring again, really really looked like he was going to about 6 times. Get well soon Boychuck, Kampfer needs a view from above.
Rask came up BIG, late. Those stops on Carter were key.
Yeah, the Bruins didn’t play their best game by far, but the Jackets really didn’t look bad. At least, not worst in the league bad.
You’ve gotta love Thornton. Boll was running around a bit, not bad, but a bit, especially that shift, and Thornton answers. In a spot in the game and against a team whom you could forgive him for not offering.
