After imperfect start in Buffalo, Bruins with perfect 10 in a row
After they sank to the bottom of the Eastern Conference late last month, all the Bruins wanted to do was make it into the top eight by the time Thanksgiving rolled around.
Boy, did they underestimate how much ground they could make up.
The Bruins reeled off their 10th straight win tonight in Buffalo, as they rallied from 2-0 and 3-1 down to pull off a 4-3 shootout victory. They are now in first place in the Northeast Division.
Benoit Pouliot scored the lone goal of the five-round skills competition.
You can read the complete game story at NHL.com.
Everyone was wondering what the Sabres had in store for Milan Lucic and the answer was an early fight with Paul Gaustad, which Lucic won handily. How that bout did anything to avenge the injury to Ryan Miller, I don’t know. But if the Sabres and their fans think they’re tougher now, good for them.
Zdeno Chara scored the game-tying goal and also won a fight. Tim Thomas outdueled Jhonas Enroth with 31 saves in regulation and overtime, and a perfect shootout.
The Bruins put the 10-game streak on the line Friday afternoon against Detroit in the Thanksgiving Showdown (credit NBC). That’s the next time you’ll hear from me.
Happy Thanksgiving to all the readers of TheBruinsBlog.net.
The Sabres did man-up. Chara should get his name on the ballot for “Bruin of the Week”. Would have rather seen someone else score, in the shootout, Pouliot is too inconsistent.
Happy Thanksgiving to American Bruin fans!
Happy Thanksgiving Matt……..
I have a lot of respect for Gaustad, he had no choice.
Agree on Pouliot, the good and the bad. RD is dead on. Pouliot helps win one for the Bs last week, and then does it again last night. Just enough to keep him in there… just enough to put himself in prime position to take a few more of those frustrating penalities.
Speaking of which. Some pretty crazy officiating last night, some very bad calls both ways. Enroth looked shaky to me most of the game. I had a feeling that if the refs just calmed down the Bs would get their chances and would make good on them.
Gotta give credit to Gaustad… I get the feeling it won’t take him until the next game to respond when something like this happens again.
Happy Thanksgiving all!
Pouliot is like golf. Frustrating, difficult, rage inducing and yet once every few games there is a moment of beauty…and it lulls you into a false sense of “oh this isn’t so bad…” And in Pouliot’s defense the elbowing call last night was jive. Sabre ducked under and BP’s elbow sort of slid up the guys shoulder. Almost looked more like he was trying to catch himself from really taking the guy’s head off.
Benoit looked pretty good after his penalty, but as RD says, let’s see if he can do it again. Bruins did their thing and got stronger as the game went by. I could sure go for another 69 like that.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!!!
Keep on rollin’ boys! Nice battle back W, with Timmy being Timmy in the shootout.
Happy Thanksgiving Matt & all!
benny goatboy pouliot – where is that shot during the game??? i tip my cap to buffalo for handling this game like men. condemned men, but men none the less.
oh, and lil recchin ball’s goal sequence was amazing.
At least now you know why the Sabers didn’t do anything about Miller’s hit. Lucic is hard to beat up. Chara is impossible to beat up.
Pouliot getting that goal complicates things for you guys. He’s one of those guys that shows flashes that provide just enough to keep him in the lineup. He then stinks for weeks on end and just when you’re ready to pull the plug, the does something like that.
10 games is a very impressive streak.
Great win boys ! There is no other team in the league that is as tight as this one. Each and every player in the line up will stick up for each other regardless of what there “rolls” might be. If we can just work on the break out a touch more good night to the competition. Last nights horiffic officiating frankly on both sides of the ledger can really take away from the flow of a game and why we fans watch. Dear Mr. Shanahan and others involved with officiating please review games like this and then tell the officials that we watch to see the players not the imaginary Zebras who blow the whistle if a beer spills in the stands oh yes the Suban dives.
Happy Thanksgiving to Matt and all his readers. What a streak eh? No better way to end a 3-7 hangover. I’m at the age where I have to schedule my hangovers. Enjoy the weekend my American cousins.
Glad it was Benny who ended it.
I was cursing him in the first when Jack noted he acquired 8 PIM in less than 1 min. TOI.
Happy Thanksgiving to all my Brothers in B’s.
Credit to Gaustad for pairing off against Lucic. He looked like a man walking to the gallows…
