He’s won eight straight starts, and it’s almost ho-hum compared to everything he’s accomplished in the last five or six months.
But Tim Thomas’ play in the Bruins’ net is still remarkable and readers of TheBruinsBlog.net recognized that this week.
Thomas, who was 3-0-0 with a .954 save percentage, was voted the Bruin of the Week.
Who should be the Bruin of the Week?
- Tim Thomas (42%, 67 Votes)
- Chris Kelly (37%, 59 Votes)
- Zdeno Chara (13%, 21 Votes)
- Rich Peverley (9%, 14 Votes)
Total Voters: 161
Thomas started his week by shutting out the hated Montreal Canadiens and then he won a shootout in Buffalo. Against the Sabres, he also held his ground against a team determined to get in his face the way the Bruins had been in Ryan Miller’s grill a couple weeks earlier. Thomas capped the week with 40 saves in a win over Winnipeg.
Entering play Monday night, Thomas ranked fourth in the NHL with a 1.86 goals-against average and third in save percentage (.937). His three shutouts also tie him for first in the league.
Could another Vezina Trophy be in Thomas’ future? I wouldn’t bet against him. And as long as he’s playing like one of the best goaltenders on Earth, I wouldn’t bet against the Bruins winning another title as well.
