A season ago, Brad Marchand told everyone in the Bruins organization who would listen that he was going to score 20 goals.

The winger backed up his rookie-year boast by lighting the lamp 21 times in the regular season.

He also put himself on pace to surpass 30 goals this season. But he’s not ready to make any more predictions just yet. In fact, he says he’s not even focusing on his offensive production.

“I’m trying not to. I’m just trying to take it game by game and whatever happens, happens,” he said last week. “But playing with guys like Bergy and Segs and on a team like ours, you’re going to get a goal here and there and I’m just trying to do my job.”

Marchand and the Bruins open a two-game road trip in Phoenix tonight, and he’ll undoubtedly be back on his line with Patrice Bergeron and Tyler Seguin trying to assault his career-highs for goals and points. That line has become the Bruins’ most reliable in all three zones, and Marchand now leads the team with 15 goals and is second with 29 points after a six-point week in two games last week.

There might’ve been a week or two that the sophomore slump was getting the better of Marchand earlier this season, but he’s clearly conquered it over the long haul.
