Poll result: Marchand making the most of 2nd NHL season

Marchand/By S. Bradley
A season ago, Brad Marchand told everyone in the Bruins organization who would listen that he was going to score 20 goals.
The winger backed up his rookie-year boast by lighting the lamp 21 times in the regular season.
With four goals last week, Marchand earned Bruin of the Week honors from readers of TheBruinsBlog.net.
Who should be the Bruin of the Week?
- Brad Marchand (76%, 121 Votes)
- Benoit Pouliot (21%, 34 Votes)
- Dennis Seidenberg (2%, 3 Votes)
- Andrew Ference (1%, 2 Votes)

He also put himself on pace to surpass 30 goals this season. But he’s not ready to make any more predictions just yet. In fact, he says he’s not even focusing on his offensive production.
“I’m trying not to. I’m just trying to take it game by game and whatever happens, happens,” he said last week. “But playing with guys like Bergy and Segs and on a team like ours, you’re going to get a goal here and there and I’m just trying to do my job.”
Marchand and the Bruins open a two-game road trip in Phoenix tonight, and he’ll undoubtedly be back on his line with Patrice Bergeron and Tyler Seguin trying to assault his career-highs for goals and points. That line has become the Bruins’ most reliable in all three zones, and Marchand now leads the team with 15 goals and is second with 29 points after a six-point week in two games last week.
There might’ve been a week or two that the sophomore slump was getting the better of Marchand earlier this season, but he’s clearly conquered it over the long haul.
Bergeron is the best.
Congrats to Marchand, he deserves the accolades. He is a good hockey player and he seems to be maturing and playing with better discipline. Glad he plays for our team…
Deano
Ditto. This past year I went off, against Matt K., on how I thought Bergeron was our number one centre. So far, Patrice has done nothing to disappoint.
Bergeron is easily the best two way player on this Bruins roster and has been for the last three years. Marchand can directly attribute part of his success to being on the line with Bergeron. Bergeron wins damn near every face-off, giving his line more puck possession opportunities. Bergeron wins at least 75% of the loose 1 on 1 puck battles he enters. He is always n good defensive position, he plays really low in the defensive zone for a center always around the net or end boards. He is one of the best PK players on the team, he can play the point on the power play or the half wall. He was one of the team leaders in hits in the playoffs and during the regular season. Almost never makes a mistake in position or with a pass. He has really good hands, good vision with the puck, shields the puck well with his body, good speed with and without the puck, good shot, decent creativity.
On top of his play on the ice Bergeron is an on ice and off ice leader for this team. Of all the Bruins who won the cup last year Bergeron may have had one of the hardest roads as a Bruin. He was here during the Thornton years, saw that year and the whole team get traded away for nothing. Got cheap shotted by Randy Jones and no Bruin did anything and the league did nothing. Missed a whole season basically. Was here when Chiarelli, Julien, Chara and Savard were signed and brought in. He is the heir apparent to wear the C after Chara leaves. Great off the ice with charities and does not ever get into trouble or do stupid things. Meaning he does not have 9 kids with 8 wives Antonio Cromartie. Bergeron is compete level 10, pure and simple.
Bergeron is the best two-way player in the game. He has dethroned Datsyuk.
Wow…..too excited. (off topic) Here at Jobing.com arena to see my Bruins play the yotes tonight. Unlike you guys back east, I dont get to see my team very often. Theres PLENTY of Bruins jerseys in the crowd tonight. Great game coming up!!!
WW – you left out his forecheck – the part of his game I like most. In my mind it’s his ability to win pucks and turn the opponent over in the offensive end that makes Bergy truly special.
Marshy has been a great Bruin in his short tenure. I hope his production stays up. I think he and Seguin will have contracts expiring together and I’d love to see them skate together for a few more years. That being said, Bergy is what makes that line so electric. His play in his own end combined with his ability to make that outlet pass to those two goes unnoticed far too much.
