Canucks can Bruins with power-play barrage

Hodgson
BOSTON — The Bruins gave the Vancouver Canucks and their league-leading power play 11 man-advantage opportunities Saturday.
And the Canucks didn’t let many of those chances go to waste.
Vancouver scored four power-play goals, including two during a five-minute major on Brad Marchand, to win the Stanley Cup Final at the TD Garden, 4-3.
The Bruins’ four-game home-ice winning streak ended.
Cody Hodgson scored what proved to be the game-winner with a slap shot that beat Tim Thomas (32 saves) 1:09 into the third period. At the time the goal put the Canucks up 4-3.
The game featured 107 penalty minutes, including a scrum that resulted in a Milan Lucic ejection for joining an altercation off the bench. Marchand earned a game misconduct along with his five-minute major for clipping Vancouver defenseman Sami Salo with 1:13 left in the second period.
Boston will be back in action Tuesday against Winnipeg.
Boo-hoo. Marchant is one of the dirtier players in the league. This is his –what-4th or 5th suspension. He’s a goon. And Lucic is rapidly becomming the same. Supsension after suspension. You’ve got a whole team full of goons. And the coach isn’t too bright either. Today he said on the radio that EVERY sinlge team in the NHL has had a player supsended this year. How about 1/2 the teams have had suspended players. But then when you have a goof for a coach what do you expect from the players.
who cares what Harry Sinden thinks about anything. that guy destroyed the Bruins for many years with his arrogant management. the Bruins started playing for the spoked-B again only after Sinden was out of power.
Although I really wanted to see us pound them on the scoreboard, you have a good point RD. I actually said this a couple times during this long stretch. Sometimes you need to lose a game, just to be brought back to reality. And there is no doubt if we meet again in the post season, this will be pure motivation for us.
You guys needed to lose that game.
You were mowing down the competition too easily and needed to realize that some teams can still beat you.
Come playoff time, this loss will probably be very useful for Julien to motivate Bruins that look to be headed for a big season.
All that game was was fuel for the fire boys. The Bruins know after that game that they can and will beat them in a series again if they need to. You give the best PP team in the league 11 man advantages, one being 5-3 and one five minute major, it’s basically giving them 2-3 goals. 5-5, we dominated, hands down, which is more what we would see in a playoff game(s) that mattered.
Refs did a terrible job trying to keep control of this game, starting with the botched 5-3 to start the game, an abortion like Karl said. I would love to have on ice audio of how this was sorted out. Really was a tone setter. Not to say that I’m a Lucic fanboy in any way, but I feel they’ve finally driven him back into his niche in front of the net this year, and we really missed that for 56 minutes in the game.
Marchand’s hit, no one really likes it. That said, I love having the guy on the team. Hopefully it’s a wakeup call at least from this perspective on his boundries in this league. Following the hit, it’s nice to see the refs not care about Salo heaving his stick around like a boomerang.
I’m sure they’re mouth’s are frothing at the thought of a postseason match with these instigating panzies, like I am…

Charlie is right. There is no excuse for a player, especially the captain, to head to the player’s bench when there is a skirmish going on. His country of origin does not excuse Sedin from his responsibilities to his teammates. As well, your comments regarding the British Columbia influence on the Bruins is ridiculous since there is only one BC native on the Bruins, Lucic. Your team, the Canucks, drafted twice before the Bruins selected Lucic in his draft year.
Similar to most Canuck fans, you should probably stick to soccer, lawn bowling, or rioting on Robson street. The one thing that binds all Canuck fans is their character trait of making excuses for losses. It stems from your GM.
Fact of the matter is that the Canucks play allot of other teams in the NHL, like Chicago, Detroit (both recent Stanley Cup Winners), San Jose that are just as challenging as the Bruins and have won those games. Canucks are a good team. Yes they do not have fighters or that type of toughness on the team, and did not look at bolstering that in the off season. Even though many Canucks fans thought they should. Canucks have a strong European and Scandinavian contribution to their team. Those hockey players are more about speed, finesse, skill and discipline. They are not “fighters”, like NA hockey players. Boston has a stronger Canadian, and for that matter – British Columbia, contribution then Vancouver..which has a little irony to that. As a Canucks fan I salute the Bruins as a great hockey team and respect them. I will not insult them, even though I dislike them. That’s what a rivalry is all about. Show some class Bruins fans…and Canucks fans. Its a great game….let’s keep it that way. Would love to see a finals cup re-match and I will cheer on my team. Live with the results either way….it is just a game. Those idiots that started a riot are another story.
Canucks fan here- great game to watch, painful for fans of both teams I’m sure.
Weiss is a 4th line call up from the minors, I’m sure we won’t see him much more when people get healthy. Embarrassing play, not the kind of thing that coach V likes to see that’s for sure.
A lot of people (like Don Cherry) are making noise about Henrik getting off the ice, and other people are making noise about the Canucks having 7 players in that fight… well THAT’S WHY HE GOT OFF THE ICE!
Bruins are an awesome team that uses size to their advantage. Canucks use speed and skill. Bruins played a ravaged Canucks team in the finals last year – 3 D-men out, Kesler could barely skate, etc. It would be great so see a rematch of the finals.
Dale Weise and Henrik Sedin are panty waists! Sedin stepping onto the bench so he won’t have to stand up for his teammates and get his dress wrinkled. Weise backing off a fight with Thronton after challenging him. What would Harry Sinden, Don Cherry or Punch Imlach have done to those cowards in similar situations? Alain V. should send them to the AHL for a few games and make them ride in a bus rather than on a cushy airplane. What a disgrace!
Well at least the NHLPA got it right on realignment. I doubt the current graciousness by GM’s, not tending offer sheets to RFA’s, would have continued under their plan.
We need to stop being a team that relies on being tougher than others. In the playoffs we will be defending a lot of penalties … Not a good strategy methinks.
I still am trying to figure out how the hell we ended up two men down in that first scrum! Lucic probably shouldn’t have been kicked out, but Lucic did the right thing, and so did the refs in that situation. They kinda had to kick him out to have any hope of having control of the game (although Burrows should have been for that spear too.)
I think there is a real possibility the Canucks will make a good contest for the championship. They are a bit more of a team than we give them credit for, but not in the way we consider out teams. They just so happen to be one of the most arrogant, dishonest groups of hockey players to be playing the game. They use this to define their style, and to a good extent it seems to bring them together, because THEY are instigating and therefore, don’t have a whole lot to defend, after all, they need every power play they can get. This identity is what I think makes them the least liked team in the NHL (yes, even the Canadiens, at least they don’t spear people in the throat.)
Salo should totally have gotten an unsportsmanlike and a game misconduct in my opinion. You don’t throw stuff at the fans, just ask Milbury.
Ya Terry. Marchand really had to worry about protecting himself from Salo. Salo, the guy in 730 NHL games has 250 penalty minutes. I’m sure the first thing going through a clean player like Salo’s mind was to put the Rat through the glass. Ridiculous thinking on Claude Juliens part.
Thanks Cormac for the I.D. Hey Shanahan look at that incident and Burrows history lets see some justice. Thorny may not be the most gifted but he is clean and honest and everyone knows it in the league. This Canucks team will implode they got no character Weise had the most embarassing move i have seen in a while. Last Claudes explanation of telling his players to protect themselves at all costs has just confirmed to me that he is the best coach in all of hockey and just gets it. With Marchand what is his height difference from Sarlo cause if he did not duck Sarlo would have caved him in. P.S. Nice no call on Sarlo who was healthy enough to try and throw a stick like a javilin over the glass must have been really hurt.
By the way, Krecji should have had his gloves off long before he did during the scrum/pile-on in front of the Canuck bench. He needs to stick up for his teammates more than that or else find himself in Columbus.
Terry, that was ‘finger biting’ Burrows that speared Thornton in the throat, instead of dropping the gloves.
Breakdown in discipline aside for the whole team, I liked seguin’s game, especially early on. Horton, though, played one of his strongest games all season, and boy, was he looking for a fight! The refs did try to keep a hold of this game, but I didn’t like that 5 on 3 call. Marshy, though, stepped over the edge with that clipping penalty, though.
All in all i would still like to see these guys in the playoffs. In a 7 game series the B’s would be able to hanlde the canucks no question again, and I would like to personally see Weise get crushed a few nights in a row and punish the Canuck weaseling.
Marchand did what he had to in avoiding an injury, especially after Hartnell ran him in the B’s 6-0 blow out ‘W’ over the flyers. The often injured Salo should change his game plan.
Two styles of officiating. Regular season and playoffs. Bruins will win the playoff style all the time. Regular season based on skill, Bruins do not fair so well.
My take well the Canucks only scored while we were short handed. We had a ton of power play chances and just could not break through like them. I agree with a others how can you be a Canucks fan they as a team are an embaresment and have no chance in the playoffs despite there skill for one reason they play as cowards and individuals. I don’t care about the two points lost I saw a highly skillled team that does not stick up for one another. While Thorny was being mugged by 7 skaters there goes one of the Sedins off to the bench could care less. If Marchand gets some time off then that Canuck who stuck that stick in Thornton’s face deserves equal or more time The Canucks and there style can hide out on Brittish Columbia cause they would not want to play in the East they would get beat up every which way night in and night out. Congragulations Sedin sisters
hard to believe o’rourke reffed the finals last year. can’t blame it all on van massengill. is there a fifa exchange program for these clowns? the 5-3 abortion they called at the beginning set the tone.
I’ve never seen a team so full of freakin panty wastes in my life. I thought Montreal was bad, and they are, but my god the Canucks are worse. I’ve never EVER seen a play like Weis made where he cleary made the motions of going with Thornton and then crawled away. The NHL has now rescinded Lucics suspension (thanks for screwing that up Refs). Of course, Marchands hit was a mental blunder and he should rightly get suspended, especially due to his past infractions. But overall, the Canucks are the biggest bunch of pussies I’ve ever seen.
I thought Nathan Horton had a solid game, even when you disregard him taking on the Canucks tough guy. Its too bad Vancouver doesn’t play in the same conference as the B’s, in regards to Alex Burroughs. I’d love to see him get into a genuine tangle with any of the following; Milan Lucic, Nathan Horton, Shawn Thornton, Johnny Boychuk, Zdeno Chara, McQuaid, or even Dennis Sidenberg. As it is now, he can run behind a linesman when the going gets tough. If he played against the B’s more often, he might not have a linesman to find during one of his skirmishes.
Probably the best game of the 2011/2012 season to watch, the kind of game that gets fans off the couch and shout profanities at the TV. I only wish they had a few more games to play against each other this season. I know a lot of people questioned putting Schneider in, but I thought it was the right thing to do. Not doing it in game 7 cost us the Cup last year. Luo can’t win in Boston – in Vancouver yes but Boston no. I guess our only hope of seeing these guys at it again is the Stanley Cup – wouldn’t that be a cup to watch!!
Cheers
The “gruin” squad lost fair and square!
Great game though!
The Canucks live and “dive” by the power play
I am primarily a Habs fan, but as far as the Nucks are concerned, the Bruins-Habs rivalry can kiss my ass: I’ll always be grateful to the Bruins for beating the Hell out of this bunch of crybabies from Vancouver last spring. The result of today’s game is of little relevance, since both teams had things to settle. Nonetheless, the Bruins should learn in the future that the Nucks’ only way to win against the NHL’s best goalie (Thomas) and deepest team (the Bruins) is to get powerplays by the dozens. Thus, discipline matters. Should the Bs stick to a disciplined game, the Nucks should be no match.
I’d love to play the Canucks again in the playoffs so we can squash them 4 straight! These guys make the Habs look like they have balls!
Canucks are gutless and lived up to their reputation of being instigators, using the poor performing refs to their advantage.
These guys don’t deserve a win especially with those type of tactics. Marchand got out of the way and get’s 5 minutes? Give me a break, so now getting out of the way is illegal?? It’s too bad we have WWE refs in the NHL…what a joke.
Even with all that garbage going on the Bruins get edged on constant man advantage play. If the Vancouver fans are satisfied with that kinda win…so be it. I know I wouldn’t
especially when my players instigate don’t man up and drop the gloves in a regular season game…thank the refs for that one Vancouver Shmucks…The Bruins are a real team to be proud of. The Canucks are the same dumb hated overrated team with zero balls!
If I were a Canucks fan, I would be embarrassed even though the Canucks won. They played like they were trying to prove they didn’t deserve the reputation they have, and just further solidified that reputation. Backing out of two fights you agreed to in an attempt to goad a penalty out of refs tells you all you need to know about the Canucks.
Tough to blame it on the refs, given that the penalty kill was off regardless of calls, but the Looch ejection and the “trip” of Kessler (its embarrassing he won the Selke last year), and I don’t recall if Salo came back after the Marchand hit (which was more ducking a hit, rather than initiating contact) but the ref immediately sent him off when he saw the play. Um, maybe he was just lazy getting up. Refs lost control of this game and were chicken running around with their heads cut off.
Ultimately the loss is on the B’s but I wouldn’t be giddy if I were a Canucks fan
Not to worry. The Bruins won’t give up 4 pp goals to often.
Can’t blame the loss on the refs (the B’s did have 7 man advantages and failed to convert on any one of those). But, I disagree with the ejection of Looch. He was technically on the ice – don’t know how you can call him for “leaving the bench”… Did anyone else notice that there were 7 Vancouver players on the ice during the altercation? I played it back a couple of times and am still dumbfounded as to how that call went against the B’s. Regardless, Marchand’s call was questionable – I don’t think it warranted a 5-min major, but like I said before, we can’t blame the zebras for the loss. Go Bs.
Marchand’s bonehead play was a killer. So too was the call that gave the Canucks a two-man advantage after the scrum.
Can’t think of anything better than what James said.
Marchand lost that one for us. 2 goals against as a direct result of that mad play. What a bungling clown. Shame the flu he had didn’t last 24 hours longer…
Simple explaination: breakdown in discipline.
