From Tuukka Time to Turco Time for Bruins … maybe
Once again today the Bruins released injury news that you could file under the heading of “well, it could’ve been worse.”
Goaltender Tuukka Rask suffered a lower abdomen strain/groin strain and is scheduled to miss four to six weeks. In an effort to replace Rask, the Bruins have signed free-agent goaltender Marty Turco.
Turco has to go through waivers, so don’t go and buy your Turco sweater just yet. If he clears, he will join the Bruins Wednesday. He will not be eligible for the postseason because he joins the team after the NHL trade deadline. Turco played in Austria a bit this season after finishing up last year as the backup in Chicago.
Rask was injured last Saturday in the loss to the New York Islanders during the second period. Considering that he had to be helped off the ice by two teammates and didn’t put any weight on his left leg, it had been feared Rask suffered something more serious to his leg. He had his left knee scoped last summer.
Last month, the Bruins were relieved when the knee injury Rich Peverley suffered wasn’t serious enough to end his season.
The Bruins will be back in action Tuesday night in Toronto. Michale Hutchinson is scheduled to again dress as Tim Thomas’ backup goaltender.
When they have their helmets on its really hard to tell the Hamiltons apart. I was sure in that video it was Dougie with the first goal from the blueline but when I checked the box score it was Freddie. It sure was a good chance to run up some season totals.
13-4 and Dougie could only get 3 apples. Strome had 5 goals and picked up an assist. Freddie had a 6 point night too
Timmy isn’t going to need to take any games off in the post season…right?….right? say it with me now Black and Gold faithful…It could be worse, check out this http://www.totalprosports.com/2012/03/05/erie-otters-forward-plays-goalie-allows-13-goals-against-named-games-first-star-video/
3-5 games down the stretch isnt going to prepare Hutch for the dance.
Ok… If Turco can’t go in the post-season, and Tuukka is out for maybe 6 weeks, don’t the Bs still need to get Hutch or Khudobin some time in the bigs so they are ready for the dance should Timmy need a breather or dare I say.. Actually, I don’t dare say it, but you know what I’m asking!
