Zanon healthy scratch for Bruins

Zanon

BOSTON — The Bruins took on the Buffalo Sabres at the TD Garden tonight without veteran defenseman Greg Zanon.

Zanon, who was acquired from Minnesota before the traded deadline, was classified as a healthy scratch.

After five games as a healthy scratch, Mike Mottau replaced Zanon in the lineup. In four games for Boston, Zanon has one assist and a minus-4 rating. Mottau previously played just one game, Feb. 28, for Boston after he was acquired from the New York Islanders. He recorded no points and an even rating in that game against Ottawa.

After the Bruins’ morning skate today, head coach Claude Julien had this to say about Zanon:

“He’s sturdy, he likes to block shots, he makes a good, solid pass and that’s what I keep saying game after game. To me, I think he gives us some stability back there. He’s not a 6-foot-plus player, but certainly plays like one. He’s pretty solid on the skates.”

Well, he might be all those things, but for one night it wasn’t enough to get him in the lineup.
