Lucic/By S. Bradley
BOSTON — Fifteen different players recorded points, Benoit Pouliot scored two goals and Brian Rolston proved the Fountain of Youth just might be hidden behind the Bruins’ dressing room with a four-point night in an 8-0 romp of Toronto tonight.
Boston swept the six-game season series from the Maple Leafs and the Bruins now lead the Northeast Division by three points over Ottawa.

While the scoring was exciting, the Milan Lucic-Mike Komisarek first-period fight also gave off some fireworks. The Bruins winger and Toronto defenseman hadn’t tangled since the 2009 Boston-Montreal playoff series. Three years later, the duo combined for pretty much the same result, with Lucic landing several face shots.
Despite the lopsided history between the two players in his favor, Lucic said he wasn’t surprised to see Komisarek step up with his team down 4-0.
“I mean … it seems like so long ago. But he’s a guy who’s definitely going to compete and he’s trying to show some emotion at a time like that,” said Lucic. “Obviously, you don’t ever like to be on the end of things, and whatever happened happened there and fortunately for me I came out on top.”
Explained Komisarek: “At that point, you’re down a couple goals and we don’t have any shots on net. Schenny [Luke Schenn] steps up and tries to show up, and I’m not going to wait for Grabo [Mikhail Grabovski] to go out there and fight their tough guy. You go out there and just try to show up, and give a couple licks, take a couple licks, and step up I guess. So, it’s pretty tough.”
Here are a few more postgame notes:
•For more on the 39-year-old Rolston’s performance, read my CBSBoston.com column.
•With a 4-0 lead after one period or a 7-0 lead after two periods, head coach Claude Julien could’ve found a way to work in Marty Turco and give Tim Thomas a rest. Instead he opted to give Thomas a shot at his fifth shutout of the season.
“With the number of shots he had [13], I don’t think it was a real tough night for him,” said the coach. “I think a shutout’s also important for him as well. If I thought he was getting tired or he was getting overworked, I would have certainly pulled him out.”
•Shawn Thornton’s two-year contract extension was made official before the game. General manager Peter Chiarelli commended Thornton for being more than a fighter and for improving every season he’s played with the Bruins.
Now there might be more expectations on Thornton to keep improving as he moves beyond his fifth season with Boston.
“I promise I’ll give it the best effort I have every night and that’s … hopefully it works out for me,” said Thornton. “I can’t really control whether my hands are going to get any better or pucks are going to go in more and stuff like that. But I’ll definitely show up and do my job every night.”
•Chiarelli said that now that Thornton’s deal is done, he won’t be re-signing any more unrestricted free agents until after the season. That means Chris Kelly, Gregory Campbell, Daniel Paille, Pouliot, Joe Corvo, Greg Zanon, Mike Mottau and Rolston will have to wait.

Terry
Good to see that you and Jack Edward’s favorite Bruin got nominated for the Bill Masterton award. Good for Johnny Rocket!
Bojangles
I’m a little surprised that there has been no deal with Kelly. His agent may have dollar signs in his eyes. He seems to like it in Boston and he was nominated as Assistant Captain, so I thought there might have been a deal done by this time. Out of Kelly, Paille, and Campell, at least one is not going to be signed to a new contract. As well, I think Pouliot, Corvo, Mattau, and Ralston will probably end up wearing different colors next year. I think they may try and make a deal with Zanon.
I agree with Rickinnh on Pevs with Krejci & Looch. Also Rolston should stay with Pouliot and Kelly. Definitely some chemistry “Bruin”.
Danny Paille is underrated. He is a great skater and he can shoot the puck.
B’s need to put Peverley with Krejci and Lucic. Rolston should stay with the third line. Zanon is looking like a solid #6.
I hate to see #18 go but I do not seriously expect to see him again, a real shame.
gotta love the eastern teams Penguins Rangers Flyers are all playing great hockey.
I’d like to know the Kelly story. I’m surprised by both sides that they haven’t found a way to make a deal. And if you’re not bringing Kelly back I’d be trying to tie up Paille to ensure the PK is in good shape. Campbell’s a nice player and I really like his grit, but I wouldn’t lose sleep if he were replaced.
Red light Rolston finally makes his appearance! Woohoo! He has seemed to have found his legs lately. He now has 8 points in 12 games, not bad considering he had 9 in 49 with NYI. I don’t care what anyone says but Pouliot makes that third line. It’s his skating/moves/attempts to take a shot or pass that creates plays on that line. He’s no Ryder, but I like his effort.
Looks like Lucic will always have Mike’s number.
Hate to say it, but that fight they had all those years ago was a real turning point in Komisarek’s career. Sure, he got a big contract but when you combine the shoulder injury he suffered in the fight with the massive confidence shellacking…he’s never been the same.
Btw, spent the weekend in southern Massachusetts. Beautiful countryside.
Great quote PCL, good lol came from it. Last night was certainly encouraging building off from Saturday’s game. It’s going to be a tough stretch to the finish line, let’s hope they can put together a great last 10 to roll into the post season on a high note. We all know they can play with NYR/Pit, it’s just seeing them do it we are looking for.
Wasn’t able to watch the game on Saturday, but I heard it was a better effort and it seems like they just built off of that last night. I’d say “welcome back gentlemen”, but I’ll wait to see how they play on this western swing. I’m pretty encouraged right now though.
Gained a lot of respect for Komisarek. He knows that he’s going to get worked over like a picture of Sidney Crosby at Pierre McGuire’s house, but he still drops the mitts with Lucic. Don’t get me wrong, he’s awful in a lot of aspects of the game, but that showed me a lot of character.
The Leafs looked even worse than the Bs did last week. Like they were hemorrhaging confidence.
It would be nice to get on a good run.
Chia should focus on Kelly, Campbell and Paille in the offseason.
Yes, yes, yes see B-16 back to banging Bruins hockey it’s amazing what this team can do if they play there style.
Bit concerned about the possibility of Campbell and Kelly going UFA. I’d like to see them resigned, but perhaps thier agents are already pricing themselves too high for Chiarelli. Perhaps he would rather use the money to land a FA instead? Or maybe to see how they do in playoffs? The others not overly concerned about.
Benoit Pouliot isn’t UFA after this season – he’s RFA.
Now hopefully they can continue off this and build another solid winning streak. The last time they slaughtered the Leafs, Boston went 9-0-1 in their next 10 games not including that night. Wouldn’t be a bad way to end the last 10 games.. Problem is they have to prove they can keep up with teams like NY and Pitt.. And of course the heavy breathing of the Sens right behind them
