The Bruins players had today off and the coaching staff is probably holed up somewhere dissecting video of Alexander Ovechkin, Mike Green and even Dennis Wideman.
Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli, however, took some time out of his Easter Sunday to chat with the media on a conference call. During the call he was asked about the potential for a Nathan Horton return to the lineup.
While Chiarelli refused to rule Horton out for the postseason, he did call the forward a “long shot” to make a return from his most recent concussion. Horton just recently started skating lightly on his own. But Chiarelli said Horton is still dealing with some post-concussion symptoms.
•The Bruins’ back end finished the regular season a little banged-up. But Chiarelli says Johnny Boychuk (knee) and Adam McQuaid (upper-body) are both day-to-day. That’s a positive sign they might be available for Game 1 later this week.
•As for Tim Thomas’ backup, Chiarelli says that Tuukka Rask has been aggressively rehabbing. So the team will see how he responds this week before determining whether to go with Rask or Anton Khudobin as the No. 2. Chiarelli said that Marty Turco will be leaving the team later this week to attend to matters.
