Playoff picks: Bruins in 5 and other fearless forecasts
The Sharks are in a perfect position to do what they haven’t been able to do for years – exceed expectations. There are no expectations of a long run for San Jose, which means the pressure’s off and if Antti Niemi can find his playoff magic in net, the Sharks just might be able to grind out enough offensive support for him.
(3) Phoenix vs. (6) Chicago
Phoenix in 6
The Blackhawks’ goaltending situation has been a toss-up all season, the Coyotes are going to take advantage of that. They should be able to prevail based on their timely scoring and some solid goaltending from Mike Smith.
(4) Nashville vs. (5) Detroit
Nashville in 5
This is the Predators’ year and the Red Wings have finally shown signs of deterioration. This will be the one-step-back year for the Wings, while the Preds – better in every area than Detroit – will be able to get some rest in order to make some more franchise history.

I’m sure CapsFan is the kind of fan that says the Caps will win because they won the season series, and then bashes someone else for picking the Senators over the Rangers.
MattK, the only series I really disagree with you on is the Sharks/Blues. I think the Sharks will lose in 5.

Thanks, CapsFan. I’m sure you have an unbiased opinion on the series.

Bruins is 7. Not was easy as it seems. Verizon Center is a tough place to play and Caps have talent. Remember, they were picked by many to win the cup at the start of the season. I like the home teams to win each game.
Just reading through your “predictions” just goes to show that you know little to nothing about hockey. Don’t quit your day job.
Interesting. I pretty much agree with the East predictions. It seems pretty far-fetched that Fla will win (which I assume is FLO Dr. Peter) for the reasons MattK outlined. Additionally, I think Wash has actually been a better team than them all season long, since something like 18 points are from ot/so losses and 12 are from wins in the shootout. To me that says they can just barely hang in there, and when they do, they lose approx. 70% of the time and 6 of 7 were S/O wins (just 1 OT win). Without that, Buffalo easily makes it to the playoffs over them, and we see Ottawa in the first round. Guess I feel like Fla got overrated.

I see a lot of upsets but BOS in five is very credible, Matt K. My choices for upsets are: OTT, FLO, PHI, LA, SJ, CHI. See you in Round Two!
