Chara/By S. Bradley

It surely isn’t making him feel any better today after the Bruins lost Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals to Washington last night, but today Boston defenseman Zdeno Chara was revealed as one of three finalists for the Norris Trophy as the league’s top defenseman.

The members of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association cast their ballots at the conclusion of the regular season. The winner will be announced at the NHL Awards in Las Vegas June 20.

Shea Weber of Nashville and Erik Karlsson of Ottawa are the other finalists.

Chara won the Norris Trophy in 2009. In 2011-12, Chara led all defensemen with a plus-33 rating and recorded 12 goals and 40 assists for a career-high 52 points.

Chara is the second Bruins player to be a finalist for an award, as Patrice Bergeron was earlier revealed as a Selke Trophy finalist. Of course, all the individual awards and nominations for awards won’t make up for the fact that the defending Stanley Cup champions were eliminated in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
