For the most part, Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli does not want to comment on negotiations with would-be free agents.
So today while announcing new contracts for Daniel Paille and Chris Bourque, he didn’t offer updates on unrestricted free agents Chris Kelly or Gregory Campbell, or restricted free agent Tuukka Rask.
But Chiarelli did shed a little light on the situation with several veterans scheduled to become UFAs July 1.
Chiarelli said that defenseman Joe Corvo has been told the Bruins are going in another direction. Chiarelli cited several prospects coming along that would create a logjam on the blue line.
As for in-season acquisitions Greg Zanon, Brian Rolston and Mike Mottau, they’ve been told the Bruins want to wait and see how the offseason unfolds. This has been Chiarelli’s approach with several players over the years. It’s unknown whether Rolston even wants to continue playing in the NHL.
