Thomas/By S. Bradley
Is concern over a possible global financial meltdown factoring into Tim Thomas’ decision to sit out the 2012-13 NHL season?
According to the Bruins goaltender’s Facebook page, it might be at least one of the reasons Thomas is willing to forgo $3 million this season in order to take time off.
On the same page Thomas, or one of his representatives, has posted several famous quotes and news updates, not to mention his reason for avoiding the White House back in January, Thomas tonight posted a link to this story under the lead-in “See why hockey’s just not that important right now?”
We all know sites get hacked all the time. But at first blush this post seems legit. Thomas has yet to comment publicly about his reasons for taking the hiatus that Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli confirmed Thomas was “seriously considering” for the upcoming NHL season.
One would hope that at some point Thomas would pull back the veil of secrecy and let his fan base know what he’s up to. Until then, we’ll keep tabs on Facebook.

so let me get this straight, tim is concerned about a global financial meltdown and to prepare for it he has walked away from 3 million bucks cold hard cash? seems reasonable.
He totally screwed any chance PC had of trading him this offseason. For a crazy christian he sure isn’t acting very christian like. What would Jesus do Timmy?
What is up with my man Timmy. The guy has totally lost his marbles. For a guy that was my favorite player the last 5 years, he is tearing my heart apart here. If he sits out, it will cost 5$ towards our cap. This guy seemed like such a good down to earth type of guy, just enjoying life in the NHL. He now seems like a guy that should be locked up in a psychiatric ward. I want the old Timmy back.
