Bruins picked Subban 24th overall.
For the first time since 2002, the Bruins have used their first-round pick on a goaltender.
If that wasn’t enough of a surprise tonight, he’s also the brother of hated Montreal defenseman P.K. Subban.
Malcolm Subban will be joining the Bruins organization as Boston picked him 24th overall tonight at the 2012 NHL Draft in Pittsburgh. Subban was Central Scouting Services’ No. 1 ranked North American goaltender.
The 18-year-old played 39 games for Bellville of the Ontario Hockey League. He compiled a 2.50 goals-against average and .923 save percentage.
Bruins finally got a little class with a Subban in their lineup. If they were honest about it they’d love to have PK also. He,ll give bruins fans nightmares for years to come. LOL……
I agree with Rollie! I can’t wait until Tuukka and Malcolm are both in the NHL! Should prove to be a good battle in a few years for the starting role. But, I guess the Bruins work with having un-numbered lines so why not have no number one goalie or two? Just play ’em both!
Im a Bruin fan in Canada, texted my dad(who is also a huge bruin fan) while Calgary was picking and said the b’s are gonna take samuelson or subban…. I like the pick, hate the habs, hate pk no matter who he plays for, just dont like the guy, but I do like Malcom, fellow b’s fans you have to realise this kid has only played net for 7 years and got drafted in the nhl in the first round, with just 7 years playing net, thats unheard of, that should tell you how good this kid is gonna be
RD,
I saw that! First time I’ve seen PK put his mouth to good use! They look pretty tight, so it should be interesting in a couple years when we see the two face off if he’ll still be singing his bro’s praises…
Really excited about this pick. Definitely a better quality per pick than Caron I think at around the same place in the draft. Good to see some organizational depth coming to life.
I like the pick
Big Bad –
Really? We just got one hell of a goalie prospect. He isn’t his brother, get over it.
If you watched interviews that day, PK spent the whole time promoting his brother, talking about how good his brother was, how he deserved to be a high pick etc etc.
It was funny when Boston made the pick because the look on PK’s face for about 2 seconds was like “OMFG!”
In the end, you guys should be happy. As far as goaltending prospects go, he’s a gem. Guys like the big bad baby will never be happy with this pick but that’s his problem. The rest of you might get the chance to enjoy watching a quality kid become a big time goaltender.
Seems like a smart pick to me.
Really don’t care that his brother is P.K.
After the initial shock wore off, I came to the conclusion that this was a pretty nice move for the future. Huge upside, has only been playing the position since he was 12 -we’re talking 6 or 7 years – and is freakishly athletic. Loved the kid’s interviews, intelligent, well spoken, and incredibly happy to be on his way to a great city and an original six team.
I’ve gotta admit, seeing a few tears of joy didn’t hurt either. Congratulations, Malcolm, looking forward to following your development, and in 3-4 years eventually seeing you and Tuukka form the best goaltending tandem in the NHL!
Very happy to see the bruins pick up a great goalie prospect. they pretty much had nobody and now they have a solid young goalie. Great move for the future.
Big Bad Bruin
This guy isn’t a mouthpiece like his brother. This guy works hard and is humble. His approach to the game is very team-oriented, from all reports of those who have been around him. He deserves to wear the spoked B, but his brother should never be considered as being a Bruin.
Unacceptable. I can’t cheer for this guy. Can’t stand his brother. The scout who recommended this pick should be fired along with Chirielli and Neely. Thanks for ruining my night idiots.
Let this be a little lesson learned that just because a team says they will probably draft a D-man doesn’t mean they aren’t using a hiding strategy to protect a pick they really covet. Sneaky (smart!) Pete had everyone, including pretty much all media, thinking he was going in one direction, then chose who he wanted!!…Malcolm is a very good athletic goalie who comes from an fine and extremely intelligent family. His dad Karl, for example, is a school principal in Toronto (in an inner-city school, no less) and has taught the boys good values and a strong work ethic. He will be an outstanding Bruin, though people continue to think of his Hab brother… See you MattK and Malcolm next week at Bs Development Camp.
