Bruins games begin to fall victim to NHL lockout
The NHL today announced the cancellation of all preseason games through Sept. 30.
That means the Bruins games Sept. 25 at Washington, Sept. 26 at Buffalo, Sept. 29 against Winnipeg in Saskatoon and Sept. 30 in Winnipeg will not be played.
Right now, the players are locked out indefinitely with no talks reportedly scheduled between the NHL and the NHLPA.
Habs might not make the playoffs, they might not finish ahead of the Bruins, they might not win all the fights either.
That being said, it will be tougher to play us than years past. We have a couple middleweights that need no excuse to fight (White and Prust) and Prust is willing to trade with the heavies although there wouldn’t be much point with Chara.
Hitting is getting better with Emelin being probably the hardest hitter in the league right now (ask 4-5 different Bruins) and don’t forget PK’s awkward yet devastating check with his entire back (best hit in recent memory on Marchand).
At any rate, it’s the best rivalry for us so I look forward to those games.
David and others
I always thought that this blog had more insight and “people in the know” than when I read others. I hope Matt or someone else picks this one up again with new topics. How about you Big Jim?
That is unfortunate if Caron has gone south. I did think at the end of the year he played his best hockey, but at sometime he’s got to grab the ring and run with it. If not, he better get used to Providence.
Bruins 16,
I’m O.K. with Borque right now. We’ve had him a solid 7 games and have yet to see him do anything important, but how much time did we wait for Seguin or other prospects? Besides, it seems like Caron has regressed in Providence according to my friend who has seen several of their games this year. I think Knight is injured, or is playing extremely poorly I don’t know which, but I’ve heard little this year and it’s all been negative. We could give Sauve a shot, but my friend again seems to think he needs more time. I’d think Spooner is closer personally and might get a look if Borque continues to prove that he just isn’t NHL quality. I also like what I’ve seen of Macdermid (albeit not this year) but I don’t think he brings the offense we would want/need on the 3rd line. I suspect he will ultimately fill a role similar to Paille.
Khudobin looked good to me in his first start. The goals he gave up were ones I fault his teammates, not him, for. What he showed makes me think he is a good, solid goalie, but not more than that, at least not yet. Hopefully he continues his strong play and we are left with less controversy.
How about that top line? I thought Krecji was going to come out and play like a sack of potatoes, and I wasn’t rightly expecting much from Horton due since he hasn’t played in some time. I was expecting Lucic to try and kill again. He has met that expectation, but has been unexpectedly productive offensively.
As for Seguin, it looks like Kane got all the benefits of that relationshisp. I hope that Kid gets going.
Damn, that felt good.
Rd,
That’s a winner right there. Was having a bad morning and the Light of Subban has brightened my day!

Good sense of humour! You might be the first Hab fan that had a sense of humour! Its good to see the Montreal fan base a little cocky again, but that ends when you play the Bruins.

This is for you:)

Bruins Daily is a good blog. They’ve been around for three years, have 4 credentialed bloggers, 2-3 professional photographers, and update the site all the time with good stuff. They’re also tight with SupahFans T-Shirts and have been giving away T’s and gift certificates.
David
Thanks for the info! I did check it out and some of the ideas are good, even if the way they are communicated is a little crude.
Chris Bourque has been woefully lacking, since getting his shot. How long before Jordan Caron is back? If not Caron what about Sauve or Knight or KoKo? Ray Bourque was one of my favourite B’s of all time (second behind Bobby Orr), but his son just isn’t getting it done.
Khubodin looked okay for his first start of the year. Hopefully this gets some comments going again.
RD
I think your hero, P.K. Subban, turtled and realized the Habs don’t need him as much as he thinks they do. It might be the first time when someone asked for a contract of five million, got half of it, and then declared each side got what they wanted. I sure glad we have his brother and not him!
These are exciting times for Bruins fans, so this site should be running. Whats up MK?
Bruins 16,
Check out days of Y’orr (see link below). It’s a different kind of website than this one was, but it’s honest about itself and is at least fun to read even if the discussion isn’t as good.

@ Bruins16. Agree with your opinion. Limited number of trolls, and educated comments here, so it’s sad to see. I do see Kalman’s articles at the Boston Herald from time to time, and enjoy those more than the other writers’. Here are a couple of sites I like and visit regularly:

Since this blog seems to have gone the way of the buffalo, does anyone have suggestions of another “good” Boston Bruin blog? Its too bad because I thought there was certain amount of knowledge and fairness with most bloggers, on this website.
BRO! Wake up this blog already. You’re doing your paid gigs, which I guess makes sense but does this mean this site is dead?
Another victim of the lockout.
THE LOCKOUT IS OVER!
Hopefully they’re not too negative for Casey. I hear that Hamilton is staying with the big club. That really surprises me. I don’t think he’s ready for the show. He’s being fast tracked I guess. Koko and Big Mac are the two I think have the best chance to make this team in the near future. Koko is back in Windsor lighting it up.
Can we get some updates on how the Bruins rookies are doing in training camp? Sheesh!
Ready when you are Matt…….
Lets do this! We are back! Matt, I need my hockey discussion fix!!!!!
MK-you gonna get the blog back up and running now?
Hope so!
Hockey time!
Subban has played well, and Hamilton has been up and down. But Camara, picked in the 3rd round, has been outstanding. He plays with sandpaper and his hustle is outstanding. As well KOKO has played well, for Russia, and has been on the ice in many important/crucial situations.
Oh I think you are just being negative about Knight’s potential. Yes Subban looks good and let’s hope Hamilton can live up to the hype.
Hamilton and Subban were factors in their biggest game of the year. Nice to see such performances by two future B’s. It’s a good sign of things to come.
He’s not that big to begin with but he did bulk up last summer. With that, I didn’t notice an improvement and he seemed to have lost some foot speed. He’s very hitable because of that. He was playing with two sixteen year olds that have a much brighter future than him. I hope I’m wrong but he’s got a long ways to go.
Thank You, but why do you think knight will be a bust?
I read that Knight is hampered by a hamstring. I think he’ll be a bust to be honest.
Can anyone tell me why Jared Knight has only played 2 games with Providence this year? Thanks
Can anyone tell me why Jared Knight has only played @ games with Providence this year? Thanks
Really impressed by Camara. He’s got the intangibles and has improved his skill-set every year. I’ve watched Dougie play quite a few games and I wish he was more physical on a consistent basis. I had to find one thing wrong with him but time will tell. Subban. He is fortunate to be going to Ufa but he can make the great save and he is very quick.
I’ve been pumping Griffith’s tires and last night he scored with four seconds left on a nice tip to keep London’s streak at nineteen wins. He also scored the Teddy Bear toss goal in a three-two win.
Finally something to cheer about; Camara, Subban, and Hamilton make the Canadian Junior Hockey team.
Seth Griffith has looked great during London’s fifteen game win streak. He scored two goals in a nineteen player shoot-out last Sunday. I can’t see that happening any time soon if ever again. He didn’t get an invite to Team Canada but that’s not surprising. Team Canada is more concerned about geography and feelings than pure ability.
Must…Talk…Hockey…
Tuukka’s groin again?!?!? Noooooooooo! Any updates?
Disappointing the players are locked out indefinitely! As a fan, I hope that can come to an agreement… so we can enjoy the season.
Jim, David, drop the gloves already.
Let’s face it sports fans are basically suckers. I’m not as much of a sucker that I used to be but I’m still a sucker. Take away all the corporate seats and see how many real fans there are.
Imagine being at the Tigers game last night. I’m not that far from Comerica Park and it was the nicest night they’ll have for some days. It started to sprinkle around 10 p.m. The weather in St. Louis was worse. Go figure. At least parking and concessions did okay.
Big Jim/David
Your scrapping on this blog makes me want for Jean-Phillipe; remember his nonsensical comments about the sport. I think we all need an NHL season to start! I’m tired of watching A-Rod sit on the bench, flip baseballs to girls in the stand, or Nick Swisher cover his eyes, like there was a glare, after dropping a fly ball in Right Field. Time to drop the puck!
Bruins 16
ha ok. david. you’re very brilliant! i guess i’m not sophisticated enough to be discussing logic with a regular socrates like yourself.
what the hell does the damn tea party have to do with anything?
And now, jimmy, you have come full circle: Your representation of my logic is skewed in the same manner as the Tea Party’s representation of reality. Congratulations, and thanks for providing me some entertainment on this Friday with your attempted trolling.
It’s too bad you’re the type that can’t respond respectfully or meaningfully and engage in a real discussion. Maybe you’d learn something.
yes david, you’re far too brilliant for me. your logic is unparalleled. the way you trapped me into replying to your nonsense post that had nothing to do with hockey was ingenius. if only i’d seen that coming. the tea party and nhl owners is such an obviously logical and accurate comparison to make, how could i have missed that?
Augusto,
I’m right in Boston and live about a mile from BC with occasional free tickets to BU games, so that’s how I’m planning to deal with it, and I agree, it’s fun to watch some really pretty plays you just can’t see in the NHL anymore, although it can be frustrating in different ways. It’s anything but boring though.
Ah, it makes sense now jim. No wonder you have a hard time making leaps in logic that I take for granted. Don’t worry about it, I’ll just pretend that you had something constructive to say. By the way, you realize that by responding to what I say, you have done exactly what you said you didn’t want to do… and I’m sure you will again.
david,
i don’t think i want to suffer through your poor grammar again.
and you don’t have to mention the tea party, your inability to understand or discuss the ideas of revenue and profit coherently makes your political persuasions quite clear.
David,
I’m lucky that I’ve got a Jr.B team within walking distance. Three Jr.A teams within an hours drive. One being twenty five minutes. The last time a season was cancelled I rediscovered amatuer hockey. It was the best year for my favourite local team in their history.
Watching mistake free hockey can be kind of boring at times. Junior and College is still hockey in it’s purest sense. I love it.
Augusto,
A little part of me died today…Guess it’s time to make college hockey bigger than the NHL, at least that’s how I plan to deal with this show of unbridled avarice…
And one last thing, Jim, maybe if you think harder (since you already “wasted” your time why not?) something will kind of make sense.
And in general, does anyone really think the Tea Party makes any sense at all?
Jim,
1) Your time to waste, It’s not my fault you read it.
2) Have you ever heard of sarcasm?
3) You do realize that rants are usually based on emotion as much as logic, correct?
Two cancelled seasons in seven years would be the end of the NHL. Where’s the WHA when you need it?
david,
that was the most incoherent, uninformed thing i’ve ever read. thank you. nothing like a gratuitous political reference thrown into a nonsensical hockey lockout rant.
As much as I love the Bruins, this is pretty silly. Seriously, just lock out for the full year, alienate your fan base to the point that half or more than half leave never to return and let your best players establish themselves in the European leagues destroying the credibility of your league making less money than you would have if you just kept playing without the f#$%ing LOCKOUT!
I find it funny that Bettman is unwilling to negotiate to 50% now that HE has enacted a lockout (thereby drastically decreasing revenues according to him) because the players are too stubborn to see how much the owners are suffering from these contracts they received!
I’m sorry, perhaps the owners would like to make a little more, but I just can’t understand why they would pay if they were going bankrupt, not that I feel bad for the players, mind you, it’s just that the owners’ demands make about as much sense as tea party rhetoric. I mean, the players have offered a more reasonable idea that reduced their share over time (giving the owners what they want) and trying to stabilize the industry (what the fans want). The owners/players just need to grow up, and in the wake of this, reduce ticket prices bu 50% so we forgive them.
Thanks for reading, I feel better.
With the team we have on paper this is a crime. Been fan since 1978 and can’t really think of a club that again has so much power on paper. Please get this stupitdity figured out soon.
