Penguins marched past Bruins

Penguins marched past Bruins

For the fourth time this season the Bruins took a lead into the third period and lost.

This time they led 2-0 with less than seven minutes to go when the Pittsburgh Penguins exploded for three goals and a regulation victory that kept Boston from taking over first place in the Eastern Conference.

The Bruins were playing on the second night of a back-to-back situation and were coming off a tough win in Ottawa. The travel schedule was one of several factors that didn’t make the loss to the Penguins as bad as the ones to Montreal and Washington, as I wrote for last night.

•Boston is 17-4-3 at the halfway point of the 48-game season. The Bruins trail Montreal by one point for first place in the Northeast Division and hold two games in hand.

Later today I’ll bring you my midseason report cards for all the Bruins’ players.
