About last night: Bruins ready for life without Kelly

While the Bruins were completely off Wednesday– no game and no practice — they still made news, even if Wes Welker and the new pope buried them on the airwaves.

Center Chris Kelly, who collided awkwardly with Ottawa’s Chris Neil Monday night and missed Boston’s loss in Pittsburgh Tuesday, was diagnosed with a broken left tibia.

General manager Peter Chiarelli had said on the radio Wednesday morning that he didn’t think there was damage to Kelly’s knee. So he was right. The Bruins declared Kelly out indefinitely, so you have to figure he’s at least done for the remainder of the regular season.

There are several options for Chiarelli to fill in Kelly’s spot going forward. But three weeks from the trade deadline, it’s too early to panic. That’s what I wrote about for CBSBostonSports.com last night.

•The Bruins host Florida at TD Garden Thursday night. The Panthers are last in the Eastern Conference and have lost four in a row.
