The Bruins suffered the famous double indignity Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh.
First, fourth-line center Joe Vitale scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 Penguins win — the second win for Pittsburgh over Boston in six days.
When it came down to it, the Penguins were just too deep for the Bruins to contend with. There aren’t enough offensive threats in the Bruins’ lineup. They have enough to get by Florida or Washington, but when it comes down to beating the Penguins or Montreal they need to play an almost perfect game to prevail.
I wrote more about the Penguins’ depth for CBSBoston.com.
•Center David Krejci left the game after Johnny Boychuk’s slap shot hit his teammate in the right knee. While no news was available on his status, Krejci traveled with the team to Winnipeg. Several reporters’ tweets described Krejci as walking without a brace and just a slight limp to the team bus. If the Bruins lose Krejci for any amount of time, expect Rich Peverley to move up to center the first line with possible other players juggled to balance the lineup.
•The Bruins will face the Jets Tuesday night. The Jets lost in Ottawa Sunday night.
