About last night: Flames renege, Iggy picks Pitt

Chiarelli

Chiarelli

By now you know that Jarome Iginla decided to join a Pittsburgh team that won its 14th in a row Thursday night rather than a Bruins team that thinks a third-period lead is a cause to close up shop.

Maybe recent game results had an impact on Iginla’s decision or maybe it was the chance to hang with Sidney Crosby or maybe the allure of pierogies was just too strong to avoid.

Whatever Iginla’s reasons, stated or otherwise, we know from Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli’s press conference Thursday that at noon Wednesday he thought he had a deal. That’s why Matt Bartkowski and Alexander Khokhlachev were scratched. By midnight, the deal was off. For my story on Chiarelli’s explanation, check out NHL.com.

•Everyone’s looking for blame, and I say look no further than Iginla. If he was willing to go to one of four teams, why veto a trade to one of those teams? Great reputation control, Iginla, as I wrote for CBSBoston.com.

•The Bruins are scheduled to practice in Wilmington Friday and then leave for Philadelphia. The Bruins will play the Flyers Saturday and then play in Buffalo Sunday. Chiarelli will continue his search to help this team. Among those names being rumored, Ryan Whitney, Jaromir Jagr and Ales Hemsky. Who do you want?
