Depending on the type of career Lane MacDermid winds up having in the NHL, at least he’ll always be able to tell his kids he was once traded for future Hall-of-Famer Jaromir Jagr.

MacDermid was dealt to Dallas along with prospect Corey Payne and a conditional draft pick Tuesday for Jagr.

“I got more experience being around an NHL team. I was happy to be up here,” said MacDermid, who played in just three games and was a healthy scratch 28 times this season for Boston. “I wasn’t totally expecting to stay up here so I was happy to be around the club and learn from guys and the coaching staff and what not.”

MacDermid, who stopped to chat on his way out of TD Garden with his sticks in hand, said general manager Peter Chiarelli told him he didn’t want to expose the Bruins’ fourth-round pick from 2009 to waivers in order to send him back down to Providence. MacDermid did have one conditioning stint with the P-Bruins in February.

“I try not to take things too personally,” MacDermid said. “You know, it’s a business. They’re just trying to do the best for the club. So I totally understand.”
