For the first time since Tuukka Rask led the Providence Bruins to the Eastern Conference finals in 2009, the P-Bruins are heading to the postseason after they topped Albany, 4-1, Friday night.
The P-Bruins are 42-21-0-5 on the season and sit atop the Eastern Conference.
In the win over Albany, the Jarome Iginla non-trade continued to pay off. Alexander Khokhlachev scored his first two professional goals. Combine Khokhlachev’s impact with the solid play Boston is getting out of Matt Bartkowski and you wonder if someday Bruins general manager Peter Chiraelli will look like a genius for getting hoodwinked.
Niklas Svedberg made 18 saves in goal. He’s now 33-8-2 on the season and he’s won eight of his last nine decisions.
Ryan Spooner is leading the P-Bruins in scoring with 49 points (13 goals) in 52 games so far this season.
There are eight games left in Providence’s regular season schedule before the playoffs start.
