Bruins coach Claude Julien said Thursday he sat out Dougie Hamilton against the New York Islanders to give the rookie a rest.

But after practice Friday, Julien didn’t declare the 19-year-old part of Boston’s lineup against Carolina Saturday night.

“The game’s not until [Saturday night]. So I still have lots of time to look at what I want to do with the roster,” Julien said. “We’ve got lots of players. I don’t make a decision the morning or the day before. Maybe over supper [Friday] night.”

Combined with 39 games he’s played for Boston, 32 with Niagara of the OHL, six for Team Canada in the World Junior Championship and the games Hamilton played in the Russia-Canada Challenge last spring. he’s played in around 80 games in the last 11 months. He’s produced just one point for Boston in his last seven games.

Hamilton wasn’t too tired to pull a switcheroo on those waiting to speak with him after practice. He told members of the media he would speak after changing his clothes and then through an emissary let the assembled reporters he would not be speaking.

The Bruins will need a rested Hamilton for the playoffs. They also might want to get Wade Redden into the lineup for the first time. So we’ll see how Julien juggles his defenseman in the final eight games of the regular season.
