2012-Upper-Deck-National-Hockey-Card-Day-America-Zdeno-Chara-6Although the Bruins don’t leave for California until Sunday and there are question marks about which injured players will be traveling with the team and maybe some call-ups from Providence of the American Hockey League, coach Claude Julien confirmed on Friday that injured defenseman Zdeno Chara will not make the trip.

After the Bruins beat Winnipeg 2-1 in overtime Julien said Chara would stay back in Boston to skate on his own and continue his rehabilitation. Chara has not played since suffering a tear in his left knee Oct. 23 against the New York Islanders. Chara was initially expected to miss four to six weeks and he just passed the five week mark.

The Bruins’ road trip starts in Anaheim on Monday and continues to Los Angeles, San Jose and Arizona, which will be the finale next Saturday. The Bruins’ first game after the trip isn’t until December 11 against Chicago.

There’s always a slight chance Chara could catch a commercial flight and join the team during the trip. But for now, it looks like the Bruins are going to battle some of the best teams in the NHL without their captain.
