Savard’s agent talks legal action

Savard/By S. Bradley

While the world awaits the announcement of the NHL’s decision about Ilya Kovalchuk’s contract Friday night, there is still the matter of the investigation into the deals of four other prominent players, including Bruins center Marc Savard, to be dealt with.

It came to light shortly after the NHL rejected the first Kovalchuk deal that the league was also looking into the long-term deals of Savard, Marian Hossa, Roberto Luongo and Chris Pronger for any signs of circumvention of the salary cap.

Report: Daly confirms league has options when it comes to circumvention

Daly

There’s no telling if the league’s third-party investigator will find any wrongdoing or circumvention when it comes to the contracts of Bruins center Marc Savard, or fellow retirement-deal-signers Marian Hossa, Chris Pronger and Roberto Luongo.

All we know is that the league is keeping its options open as far as punishment should there be a need for discipline.

Savard says his feelings are ‘hurt’

Savard/By S. Bradley

Great job by Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun to track down Bruins center Marc Savard and get him on the record about his feelings in regards to this summer’s trade rumors.

“They hurt me a little bit just because I went to Boston and I helped to build that team back up,” Savard told Garrioch Friday for an article posted Saturday night on The Sun’s Web site. “Since I’ve been there, I’ve really tried to work hard with the young guys and being a core player. I was really focused on staying there for the rest of my career. To hear all this stuff this summer bothered me inside more than anything else.”

Could Bruins benefit from league investigation?

Savard/By S. Bradley

Marc Savard showed how much he wanted to stay with the Bruins last December when he re-signed with the club, and the Bruins have seemingly determined they can keep Savard around after a couple months of allegedly shopping him around to clear cap space.

Now it seems there’s a chance the Savard-Bruins marriage could be broken up by a third party, and that might not be the worst thing for the club.

The Kovy wheel finally stops turning

Devils fans can still wear Kovy t-shirts

The first shoe has finally dropped, the first domino has finally tipped over … whatever cliche you want to use, at least it’s finally over.

As you’ve no doubt heard by now, Ilya Kovalchuk finally decided that he’d rather New Jersey make him filthy rich instead of Los Angeles.

McKenzie on Savard situation

As per 12:30 p.m., TSN reports Bob McKenzie was reporting that a Marc Savard-for-Robyn Regehr deal with Calgary was a “serious consideration for both clubs.” But Savard has not been asked by the Bruins to waive his no-trade clause and Regehr also has a no-movement clause.

Regehr, 30, is a left shot with three years left on his deal worth an annual cap hit of $4,020,000.

Recchi tries to rationalize a potential Savard deal

Recchi/By S. Bradley

Mark Recchi has obviously decided to return to the Bruins without testing the free-agent market July 1 because he thinks the club is going in the right direction and will be a Stanley Cup contender in 2010-11.

Whether Marc Savard will be a part of that team remains to be seen, as it’s a well-know fact now that Boston has been shopping the star center since last week. Most can’t wrap their head around how the Bruins would be a better club without their perennial leading scorer. But there are also salary-cap implications that might be hindering other plans general manager Peter Chiarelli has in mind.

Are Ottawa and Toronto viable trade partners?

Savard/By S. Bradley

The reports out of Los Angeles late Saturday after the 2010 NHL Entry Draft ended revealed Marc Savard and his agent Larry Kelly might’ve have loosened their stance as far as the center’s total no-trade clause, which doesn’t become a limited no-trade until July 1.

The two teams Savard was willing to go to before the end of this month were Ottawa and Toronto, which would both keep him in the East and near his children. But a glance at the respective rosters of the Senators and Maple Leafs reveals little in the way of assets those teams would be willing to part with and Boston would be interested in acquiring.

If Bruins are serious, Savard stays

Savard/By S. Bradley

We’ve beaten this fact to a pulp ever since the regular season ended: the Bruins scored the fewest goals in the NHL in 2009-10.

But that’s obviously not the only negative associated with the Bruins and scoring. We all know that when Marc Savard was out of the lineup, they were even worse — both at even strength on on the power play, where the difference between Boston with and without Savard was the same as listening to an aria sung by Miley Cyrus or Andrea Bocelli.

Final grades: Marc Savard

Savard/By S. Bradley

The Bruins signed 32-year-old Marc Savard to a seven-year contract extension with the intention that he probably wouldn’t play out the entire term of the deal but would at least be a perennial offensive force (at a friendly salary cap hit) for no less than half of that time.

So hopefully Savard’s injury-ravaged 2009-10 season got all those ailments out of the way and wasn’t a sign of things to come for the playmaking center. [Read more →]

Savard simmering over Richards hit, past play

Savard

BOSTON — As frustrated as he was with his team’s overall play in a 4-0 loss to Philadelphia in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series with the Flyers tonight at TD Garden, Marc Savard also took exception with a Mike Richards hit with 5:26 left in regulation.

The hit was a bit from behind and sent Savard into the side wall in the attacking zone. Savard got up and went after Richards to earn a roughing penalty. There was no call on the initial hit. [Read more →]

Savard stronger every day

Savard

PHILADELPHIA — While most of the focus today at Wachovia Center, where most of the Bruins spent an hour or so of their off day before tomorrow’s Game 4 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series with the Flyers, was focused on the center that won’t be available for the Bruins — David Krejci — another center talked about how things are looking up after three games back in the lineup.

Little by little, Marc Savard is rounding into his old form in his return from a severe concussion suffered March 7.

‘Bite-Gate’ probably won’t go away, but Savard hopes

Savard takes a bite.

PHILADELPHIA — Bruins center Marc Savard is trying his hardest in public to get everyone to turn the page from Daniel Carcillo’s bit accusation from Monday’s Game 2, but that’s not likely to deter the Flyers fans at Wachovia Center tonight for Game 3 to pour it on the would-be chomper.

“It doesn’t worry me. I just go out and play and that stuff’s happened before, in different cities, but it doesn’t worry me,” said Savard this morning after the Bruins’ skate. [Read more →]
