BOSTON — Playing in the first of three games that are basically glorified exhibitions because of their locked-in status as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference, the last thing the Bruins wanted to happen tonight against Pittsburgh was an injury to a key player.
Well, their worst nightmare became reality when Johnny Boychuk went down to the ice after a collision with Penguins forward Arron Asham 6:45 into the third period of Pittsburgh’s 5-3 win at TD Garden.

WILMINGTON, Mass. — Only a handful of Bruins took the Ristuccia Arena ice this morning for an optional practice.
Both goaltenders Tim Thomas and Marty Turco were joined by Gregory Campbell, Joe Corvo, Mike Mottau and Rich Peverley.
Peverley, who’s been out of the lineup since mid-February with a knee injury, will join the team on the upcoming road trip to California and could play in a game before the three-game jaunt is through, according to head coach Claude Julien.

Well, it appears Marty Turco did enough in his first hour-long practice with the Bruins to convince team brass he could at least serve as Tim Thomas’ backup.

WILMINGTON, Mass. — The revelation this morning via TSN’s Darren Dreger that if Marty Turco was claimed on waivers he could not play in a game for the claiming team obviously changed the odds the goaltender would get through and join the Bruins.
So it wasn’t much of a shock when he joined Boston on the Ristuccia Arena ice for practice this morning.

Eyewitnesses reported via Twitter that Marty Turco, who’s not yet an official member of the Bruins, was outside Boston’s dressing room after tonight’s 5-4 win over the Maple Leafs in Toronto.
So the questions occurred to me, was Turco the second-best NHL goaltender present in the Air Canada Centre?

Once again today the Bruins released injury news that you could file under the heading of “well, it could’ve been worse.”
Goaltender Tuukka Rask suffered a lower abdomen strain/groin strain and is scheduled to miss four to six weeks. In an effort to replace Rask, the Bruins have signed free-agent goaltender Marty Turco.
