The Bruins’ fortunate injury situation marches on, while one of their closest competitors is dealing with replacing one of its biggest stars due to a health issue.
The Philadelphia Flyers, who host the Bruins in the battle of the top two teams in Eastern Conference Saturday, learned Thursday night that star defenseman and captain Chris Pronger will miss the remainder of the season and playoffs due to severe post-concussion syndrome.

Most weren’t debating whether Adam McQuaid would get a suspension for his knee-on-knee hit on Nick Foligno Wednesday night, just how many games the Bruins defenseman would get.
Well, today McQuaid was let off basically with a warning.

If Tim Thomas and Tuukka Rask were rivals instead of buddies, that might’ve been how the dialog went in the Bruins’ dressing room in Ottawa tonight.

BOSTON — Tuukka Rask was so strong in net tonight, the Bruins didn’t need Zdeno Chara on defense to shut out Los Angeles, 3-0, at the TD Garden.
That might be an overstatement, but the Kings’ league-worst offense was no match for Rask. The goaltender finished with 41 saves, including 20 in the third period.

BOSTON — Regardless of whether Daniel Paille is cleared to play tonight, Bruins head coach Claude Julien is leaning toward using Zach Hamill to fill in for Gregory Campbell as the team’s fourth center tonight against Los Angeles as the TD Garden.
So the team’s energy line will have a different look either way.

He might be hobbled by a foot injury right now, but Gregory Campbell was healthy enough to play his best last week when the Bruins were compiling a 2-2-0 record.
Campbell didn’t put up big numbers, but Bruins fans appreciated his efforts enough to vote him the Bruin of the Week.

In a sign they’re concerned that Gregory Campbell and Daniel Paille won’t be able to play against Los Angeles tomorrow night, the Bruins tonight recalled forward Zach Hamill from the Providence (AHL) farm club on an emergency basis.
Campbell missed practice today with a foot injury he suffered Saturday night in Columbus. Paille practiced today for the first time since he suffered a mild concussion last week, but still has to pass some tests to get game clearance.

WILMINGTON, Mass. — Zdeno Chara said after Bruins practice today that he is unlikely to play Tuesday against Los Angeles, but beyond that he’s just day-to-day.
The captain isn’t the only injured Bruins player to worry about, though.

Daniel Paille returned to practice today, while, as expected Zdeno Chara did not take the ice during practice at Ristuccia Arena. Gregory Campbell also did not skate, so expect an update on him later.
Just when you thought the only concern you’d have about the Bruins when this week ended was about their 2-2-0 record in four games, along came Zdeno Chara’s injury.
The Boston Globe is reporting that Chara’s “leg injury” will keep him out at least a week, which if true has to be positive news considering the fears he might be out long-term.

Without Zdeno Chara for the third period tonight, the Bruins had to dodge a bullet.
They used all their grit and some great relief goaltending from Tuukka Rask to get by the Columbus Blue Jackets on the road.

WILMINGTON, Mass. — To no one’s surprise, Bruins forward Daniel Paille did not skate with the team today during practice at Ristuccia Arena.
Paille suffered a head injury in the loss to Florida Thursday night when he was hit by Krys Barch.
I’m sure the Bruins will provide some sort of an update on Paille’s condition after practice. The rest of their 12 forwards and seven defensemen were on the ice, along with the two goaltenders.

BOSTON — Jose Theodore dominated the Bruins in the playoffs a decade ago in a Montreal uniform.
For one night he was back into that form Thursday in a 2-0 victory over Boston at the TD Garden, as he made season-high 40 saves and Tomas Kopecky scored the go-ahead goal in the third period.
