Some were wondering Saturday night if Bruins rookie Tyler Seguin’s flu-like symptoms that kept him out of the game against the Flyers were related to the “Philadelphia flu” or his inconsistent play more than any germs he might’ve caught.
BOSTON — Some nine days after published reports had the Bruins trading Marco Sturm to Los Angeles for a conditional draft pick Boston finally dealt the recovering winger to the Kings.
But instead of a draft pick, the Bruins got nothing.

Not only have the Bruins lost four of their last give games, they’ve made nearly a nightly habit of falling behind three goals.
That doesn’t sit well with general manager Peter Chiarelli, who tonight admitted that even though he made the Matt Hunwick trade mostly for salary-cap reasons he could’ve easily needed to make a move to change this team’s fortunes.
Just call Chiarelli Ishmael.
Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli says the quest to add a top-tier puck-moving defenseman to his team’s back end will continue even in the aftermath of trading Matt Hunwick to Colorado for prospect blueliner Colby Cohen.

WILMINGTON, Mass. — Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli says he and his staff actually made the decision to keep Tyler Seguin in Boston earlier than last night.

WILMINGTON, Mass. — Earlier this week, Toronto general manager Brian Burke said that his phone has recently been ringing more as far as trade talk after a lull.

BOSTON — The summer of discontent over the end of last season and anticipation of what the 2010-11 Bruins season will bring finally officially ended for Boston with a team of Bruins rookies beating a similar squad of New York Islanders, 5-2, at TD Garden.
Even more impressive than the amount of talent Boston put on the ice was the amount of people who showed up to see the game.
WILMINGTON, Mass. — Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli spoke after the first day of rookie practice at Ristuccia Arena today.
WILMINGTON, Mass. — With Mark Stuart signed to a one-year deal, the Bruins now have just around $2 million left in cap space and still have restricted free agents Blake Wheeler, Adam McQuaid and Gregory Campbell to re-sign.
It would seem that a move might be imminent, but general manager Peter Chiarelli says that’s not the case.

Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli made what he termed “preemptive moves” before today’s opening of the free agent market by acquiring Nathan Horton, drafting Tyler Seguin and re-signing Mark Recchi, Dennis Seidenberg and Johnny Boychuk.
So that all he did on “Free Agent Frenzy Day” was retain winger Daniel Paille didn’t leave the GM wanting. Chiarelli said he spoke to a couple agents and a couple GMs for talks that will probably be revisited over the next few days and weeks.

BOSTON — If free agency opened today instead of Thursday, the Bruins would not be able to make a big splash.
“Right now we don’t have the cap space to go out and make a big deal,” said Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli after a TD Garden press conference to introduce Tyler Seguin and Nathan Horton to Boston. “We don’t. But that could happen. We could make a trade and there could be cap space. It doesn’t mean we have someone in mind.”
