The Washington Capitals let the Bruins slip out of their fingers, and Tyler Seguin escaped his cage as well.
Now there’s no telling if the Bruins will be corralled again.
Seguin scored the game-winner 3:17 into overtime as the Caps failed to close out the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals in Game 6 today, and now the Bruins will host Game 7 Wednesday night at TD Garden.

Even before he learned that he would be without star center Nicklas Backstrom due to a one-game suspension for cross checking Rich Peverley in the head, Washington head coach Dale Hunter came out with the claims that Backstrom was protecting himself and that the Bruins were targeting Backstrom’s head in the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series between the teams.
Today Bruins head coach Claude Julien had a chance to respond to Hunter’s comments on the second off day before tomorrow night’s Game 4, with the Bruins now leading the series, 2-1.

Nice, try Dale Hunter. But this time, NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan saw right through your propaganda.
Shanahan tonight announced a one-game suspension for Washington center Nicklas Backstrom. The star playmaker and overtime hero of Game 2 was assessed a match penalty for cross checking Bruins forward Rich Peverley after the final horn of Boston’s 4-3 Game 3 victory Monday night.

BOSTON — After taking Monday to travel back from the West Coast, the Bruins hit the TD Garden ice for their morning skate in preparation for tonight’s game against Tampa Bay.
Among those on the ice was Rich Peverley, who missed 19 games with a knee sprain before he returned to the lineup and played more than 16 minutes in Boston’s win at Anaheim Sunday. Peverley says he’s feeling fine and that now he just has to continue to work his way back to being 100 percent normal.

The news out of San Jose that Bruins forward Rich Peverley went through his first practice with the team since he started skating today, and even took a little contact, made today’s poll question even more pertinent.

The Bruins brought back Trent Whitfield on an emergency recall yesterday so that they could leave for California today with 13 healthy forwards.
However, over the course of their three games in the Golden State that number might expand to 14 forwards. Rich Peverley is also on the trip and might be ready to get into on of Boston’s games against either San Jose, Los Angeles or Anaheim.

WILMINGTON, Mass. — Only a handful of Bruins took the Ristuccia Arena ice this morning for an optional practice.
Both goaltenders Tim Thomas and Marty Turco were joined by Gregory Campbell, Joe Corvo, Mike Mottau and Rich Peverley.
Peverley, who’s been out of the lineup since mid-February with a knee injury, will join the team on the upcoming road trip to California and could play in a game before the three-game jaunt is through, according to head coach Claude Julien.

WILMINGTON, Mass. — After flying home from Florida this morning, the Bruins hit the ice for about an hour of practice at Ristuccia Arena.
As they headed out to the rink, many probably passed teammate Rich Peverley coming off the ice.

Before departing Montreal for Winnipeg and a game with the Jets Friday night, Bruins head coach Claude Julien reported today that Rich Peverley has returned to Boston to have his knee evaluated.
Peverley was injured four minutes into the third period of Boston’s 4-3 shootout win over the Canadiens when he was hit by defenseman Hal Gill while crossing his own blue line with the puck. It’s doubtful Peverley would be able to rejoin the Bruins for the Jets game.

BOSTON — The Bruins have decided to give Rich Peverley the night off tonight when they host Florida tonight at the TD Garden.
Peverley was the only Bruins player absent from the morning skate and after the session head coach Claude Julien confirmed the night of rest for Peverely.

WILMINGTON, Mass. — Defenseman Andrew Ference and forward Rich Peverley were the only two Bruins players to not practice today at Ristuccia Arena.
While head coach Claude Julien said Ference was battling the flu, the bench boss noted that Peverley was taking the first of at least two maintenance days to rest an undisclosed injury.

BOSTON — Bruins head coach Claude Julien declared Andrew Ference out for his team’s game against Buffalo Saturday night.
Ference suffered a lower-body injury against Edmonton Thursday. He did not practice today at the TD Garden.
