WILMINGTON, Mass. — Defenseman Andrew Ference and forward Rich Peverley were the only two Bruins players to not practice today at Ristuccia Arena.
While head coach Claude Julien said Ference was battling the flu, the bench boss noted that Peverley was taking the first of at least two maintenance days to rest an undisclosed injury.

BOSTON — Bruins head coach Claude Julien declared Andrew Ference out for his team’s game against Buffalo Saturday night.
Ference suffered a lower-body injury against Edmonton Thursday. He did not practice today at the TD Garden.

BOSTON — Bruins defenseman Andrew Ference suffered a lower-body injury in tonight’s 6-3 win over Edmonton at the TD Garden, according to head coach Claude Julien.
Ference played two shifts in the second period and was not heard from again.

BOSTON — The Bruins returned to practice today at TD Garden after taking a day off Tuesday.
Everyone was on the ice except Daniel Paille, who had morning surgery to fix his fractured nose according to head coach Claude Julien.
WILMINGTON, Mass. — After taking a rare mid-week day off yesterday, the Bruins returned to practice today at Ristuccia Arena.
Every healthy player hit the ice, with one minor tweak in the forward lines.

By now you know that Rich Peverley has spurned unrestricted free agency next summer by signing a three-year extension with the Bruins today.
The veteran winger will reportedly be a cap hit of $3.25 million per season over the life of that deal.

WILMINGTON, Mass. — He’s moved up the Bruins’ depth chart and now he’s obviously a big part of their future plans.
Forward Rich Peverley today signed a three-year contract extension with Boston that will last through the end of 2014-15 season.
If you hadn’t heard of him while he was skating in virtual anonymity in Nashville and Atlanta, Rich Peverley sure figured out a way to make himself a household name in New England.
BOSTON – The Atlanta Thrashers couldn’t succeed without Rich Peverley, so they packed up and moved to Winnipeg.
Well, the story doesn’t quite go that way but after witnessing what the veteran forward did tonight in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final, the Atlanta/Winnipeg franchise just might be kicking itself for letting Peverley get away.
BOSTON — At least for the Bruins’ warm-up before tonight’s Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final, Rich Peverley was Nathan Horton’s replacement.
BOSTON — No one’s telling Rich Peverley he has to go out and score as many goals as Nathan Horton normally would over the rest of the Stanley Cup Final any more than they’re demanding that of Michael Ryder, Tyler Seguin or any other Bruins forward.
BOSTON – It’s difficult to picture the 2010-11 Bruins’ season and their run to the Stanley Cup Final without Nathan Horton.
With 26 goals in the regular season and eight more in the playoffs – including three of the most dramatic game-winning goals in franchise history – Horton has lived up to the hype surrounding his trade to Boston from around this time last year and written his own chapter in Bruins lore.
In a world where only Andrew Ference is willing to look beyond sweater colors and logos to tell it like it is (and then take unwarranted criticism for it), Vancouver head coach Alain Vigneault carried on the most prominent tradition in the NHL — hypocrisy — today.
For some players, a demotion to the fourth line means something’s wrong and playing time will be scarce, especially when that player’s team is in the Eastern Conference Final.
But for Bruins forward Rich Peverley, his drop down the depth chart has only been sporadic because he’s been shifted throughout the lineup the last two games and continues to be a key contributor on special teams.
