You’ve heard about getting all dressed up but having no place to go.
Well, there are nights out on the ice when Shawn Thornton’s temper gets pushed over the edge, but he has no one to go – in a fight that is.

Maybe it was because the Bruins were defending Stanley Cup champions this season and everyone was trying to go at them harder than ever.
Whatever the reason, Shawn Thornton had to increase his fight card to 20 bouts – tied for most in the league – after he battled in 14 the season before.

BOSTON — As if there was any doubt beforehand, Bruins head coach Claude Julien left little doubt in regard to Patrice Bergeron’s availability for tonight’s Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series with Washington at TD Garden.
“I think so,” said Julien after his team’s morning skate when asked about Bergeron playing.

WILMINGTON, Mass. — Bruins center Patrice Bergeron did not practice today at Ristuccia Arena.
He was the only player missing, as Jordan Caron filled in on Bergeron’s line with Rich Peverley moving over the center.

Thornton
BOSTON — The Bruins this evening officially announced the signing of Shawn Thornton, which Bob McKenzie of TSN announced over the weekend.
Thornton gets a two-year deal worth a reported $1.1 million per season. He is the first of the famed “Merlot Line” to forgo unrestricted free agency. Daniel Paille and Gregory Campbell are also up for free agency after this season.

It looks like Boston’s most-beloved hockey-playing adopted son will be sticking around a little longer.
According to several reports, Shawn Thornton is going to forgo unrestricted free agency and sign an extension with the Bruins.

Boychuk/By S. Bradley
With the trade deadline looming in a few hours, the Bruins practiced today at Ristuccia Arena.
Defenseman Johnny Boychuk, rocked by a Chris Neil hit Saturday, was absent. So was winger Shawn Thornton, who missed Saturday’s game because he was “sick,” although the vagueness of the Bruins’ info on Thornton leads one to believe there might be more to his absence than a flu bug.
BOLTON, Mass. — Both because he’s a well-spoken, respected member of the Bruins, and because he happens to be the team’s yearly leader in fighting majors, Bruins forward Shawn Thornton was asked today about the tragedies of this summer in hockey.
MIDDLETON, Mass. – As the only returning member of the Stanley Cup champion Bruins who has experience dealing with the extremely short offseason that comes with winning the title, Shawn Thornton is ready to aid his teammates in any way they need this fall when training camp opens.
This post is part of a series looking back at the top 10 games of the Bruins’ 2010-11 regular season.
By now we all know how much Shawn Thornton brings to the Bruins’ cause and just how underpaid he is at $812,500 per season with a deal that expires after this season.
There were no Boston-area natives on the Bruins’ roster that won the 2011 Stanley Cup championship.
But the way Shawn Thornton has embraced living in this city, he might as well be a native son.
BOSTON – Shawn Thornton was in the same boat we all were tonight.
He didn’t know until after warm-ups that he would be in the lineup for Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final at TD Garden.
BOSTON — If Bruins head coach Claude Julien is contemplating a move that involves Shawn Thornton re-entering his lineup, there’s nothing on Thornton’s end of things holding up the switch.
The Bruins just haven’t looked themselves the first couple games of the Stanley Cup Final.
