All the talk about Tim Thomas the last several weeks has been about the goaltender’s future.
Will he play again? Will he play for the Bruins again? Will the Bruins find a way to get out from under his $5 million cap hit?

The 2012 NHL Draft in Pittsburgh is supposed to be focused on the future of the league.
However, one story of a veteran won’t stop moving forward and taking wild and wooly turns. I write, of course, about the travails of Tim Thomas.

Tim Thomas took to his favorite means of communication Sunday morning to expand upon his decision to not fulfill the final year of his $5-million-per-year contract with the Bruins and sit out the 2012-13 season.
Thomas’ official Facebook page featured the following statement from the All-Star goaltender:

Is concern over a possible global financial meltdown factoring into Tim Thomas’ decision to sit out the 2012-13 NHL season?
According to the Bruins goaltender’s Facebook page, it might be at least one of the reasons Thomas is willing to forgo $3 million this season in order to take time off.

Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli today confirmed the TSN/ESPN report that goaltender Tim Thomas is seriously considering sitting out next season. If Thomas doesn’t play, his $5 million cap hit would still count against the Bruins.

BOSTON — Chris Kelly scored 20 goals during the regular season but refused to take credit for improving his offensive game.
Even after he scored the overtime game-winner in the Bruins’ 1-0 win against Washington in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals Thursday at TD Garden, he was still crediting his linemates and the organization. Whether he likes it or not, however, Kelly was the hero of the pivotal first game of the best-of-seven series.

BOSTON – Although they didn’t do it with just their top snipers getting the glory, the Washington Capitals ended Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas’ perfect shootout record tonight.
Speeder Alexander Semin scored one of the Capitals’ goals, but the other Washington scores came off the sticks of hard-working forwards Matt Hendricks and Brooks Laich in a shootout the Caps won 3-2 to clinch a 3-2 win in the game.

Tim Thomas was in all-out playoff mode Thursday night in San Jose.
Unfortunately, the rest of the Bruins left their skating legs on the cross-country charter and did little to help out their star goaltender in a loss.
Although it didn’t seem possible, Thomas was better in Los Angeles Saturday than he was against the Sharks, and this time around Boston provided the offensive support. Four different Bruins scored goals in a 4-2 win over the Kings.

BOSTON — Fifteen different players recorded points, Benoit Pouliot scored two goals and Brian Rolston proved the Fountain of Youth just might be hidden behind the Bruins’ dressing room with a four-point night in an 8-0 romp of Toronto tonight.
Boston swept the six-game season series from the Maple Leafs and the Bruins now lead the Northeast Division by three points over Ottawa.
