PROVIDENCE — With the assignment of Adam Courchaine to Reading of the ECHL, the Providence Bruins are going to open their season with Matt Dalton and Michael Hutchinson as their two goaltenders.
Dalton will be the opening-night starter against Springfield at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center Friday night.
Spooner
BOSTON — Sometimes an NHL head coach will hold back a little when complimenting a rookie that was just drafted and is going through his first NHL training camp.
However, when asked about 2010 second-round pick Ryan Spooner, Bruins head coach Claude Julien lauded the center who’s scheduled to play his second NHL preseason game Saturday night against Florida at TD Garden.
BOSTON — Overall, Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli and Providence head coach Rob Murray were pleased with what they saw out of Boston’s rookies in two wins over the New York Islanders, including tonight’s 2-1 overtime win at TD Garden.
Here’s what they had to say after the game:

BOSTON – Steve Kampfer can now claim an achievement that even Zdeno Chara can’t touch.
The rookie defenseman is undefeated as captain of the Boston Bruins.
BOSTON — Ryan Spooner was admittedly nervous and uncomfortable during the Bruins’ rookie-game win Wednesday. Tonight he settled down and it showed, as he scored two goals — including the game-winner — for a Boston sweep of the two-game set at TD Garden.
“I just think I kind of got used to it,” Spooner, a 2010 second-round pick, said after the game. “I just went out there and tried to play, I guess, a simple game and it worked out tonight.”
Here are his complete postgame comments:
The Bruins celebrate Spooner's goal.
BOSTON — The Bruins’ rookies completed a two-game sweep of the New York Islanders tonight at TD Garden, as Ryan Spooner’s second goal of the game lit the lamp with 38.5 seconds left in overtime.
With the exception of five to six cuts, according to general manager Peter Chiarelli, the rookie team members will not move on to main training camp starting Saturday.
Courchaine/By S. Bradley
BOSTON — Adam Courchaine rewarded the Bruins brass for giving him the starting nod in the first rookie game at TD Garden by making 31 saves tonight in a 5-2 win over the New York Islanders’ rookies.
Courchaine looked calm and collected throughout, and made a nifty save on Isles top prospect Nino Niederreiter late in the game to keep New York at bay.

BOSTON — The summer of discontent over the end of last season and anticipation of what the 2010-11 Bruins season will bring finally officially ended for Boston with a team of Bruins rookies beating a similar squad of New York Islanders, 5-2, at TD Garden.
Even more impressive than the amount of talent Boston put on the ice was the amount of people who showed up to see the game.
Hutchinson/By S. Bradley
They are the “Three Caballeros” of Bruins rookie camp.
They’ve been together as a trio of goaltenders at previous rookie, development and training camps, and have gotten to know each other well on and off the ice over the last couple years.
But if Adam Courchaine, Matt Dalton and Michael Hutchinson didn’t feel like they were in a three-way battle for a large prize during the first three days of rookie camp, starting tonight they’ll be on notice that everything is on the line every time they take the ice.
