Lucic’s goal wasn’t enough to help Bruins/By S. Bradley

Maybe some fresh legs will do the trick.

The Bruins have now lost two in a row after they followed up Thursday’s home loss to the New York Islanders with a road loss Saturday to the lowly Carolina Hurricanes, who hadn’t won in April and had won once in their prior 15 games.

We all know how ugly the numbers are for Bruins forward Milan Lucic through 40 games of this season.

The would-be power forward has produced just five goals this season, which would put him on pace for just about 11 in a regular 82- game schedule.

Dougie Hamilton

Bruins coach Claude Julien said Thursday he sat out Dougie Hamilton against the New York Islanders to give the rookie a rest.

But after practice Friday, Julien didn’t declare the 19-year-old part of Boston’s lineup against Carolina Saturday night.

Injuries and ineffectiveness finally forced Bruins coach Claude Julien to break up the David Krejci’s line with Milan Lucic and Nathan Horton to start Thursday night’s game.

Krejci started the night with Daniel Paille on his left instead of Lucic and finished with Tyler Seguin skating that wing opposite Horton for the third period. The new combinations failed to pay off as the Bruins came up a goal short, 2-1, to the New York Islanders at TD Garden.

Both Bruinsgeneral manager Peter Chiarelli and coach Claude Julien were encouraged by the news that Patrice Bergeron has started working out eight days after he suffered the fourth concussion of his NHL career.

Chiarelli revealed the news during the Toucher and Rich Show on 98.5 The Sports Hub Wednesday morning.

Carl Soderberg

Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli, like team president Cam Neely a day before him, took to the airwaves of 98.5 The Sports Hub Wednesday, but would still not declare the club’s contract with Carl Soderberg a done deal.

Regardless, it appears that nine years after he was drafted by St. Louis and six years after he was traded to the Bruins, Soderberg is headed to Boston to help the Bruins’ stretch and playoff runs.

Several published reports Tuesday had the Bruins signing one of their prospects to an entry-level deal.

And when the Bruins put out a press release, they had signed Seth Griffith, who the team drafted in the fifth round in 2012.

One misconstrued quote from Bruins coach Claude Julien sent people all in a tizzy about Tuukka Rask’s status in the team’s net last month.

Then Anton Khudobin produced a couple shining-star performances in the Bruins’ crease and even more people peeped up thinking Rask might not be able to hang on to the No. 1 goaltender position.
