The Bruins’ decision to start 18-year-old first-round pick David Pastrnak with Providence of the American Hockey League rather than keep him in the NHL or send him to his team in the Swedish Elite League is paying off.
Bruins coach Claude Julien classified center David Krejci as day-to-day Monday after the Bruins practiced at TD Garden and Krejci was the forward on the roster missing.
Bruins coach Claude Julien declined to comment on the report from SportsNet’s Elliotte Friedman on Saturday night that the coach had agreed to terms on a three-year contract extension.
His own reported contract extension wasn’t the only thing Bruins coach Claude Julien was staying mum about Saturday after the Bruins beat the Ottawa Senators, 4-2.
Julien also offered little in the way of an update on injured center David Krejci.

WILMINGTON, Mass. — Bruins center David Krejci did not practice at Ristuccia Arena on Friday.
Krejci played 19:08 against Buffalo on Thursday, including the opening shift of overtime.
This is the opportunity Bruins defenseman Matt Bartkowski should not only be grabbing but should be strangling until its blue in the face and can’t take in a single millimeter of oxygen.
Instead Bartkowski’s career is suffocating.
WILMINGTON, Mass. — Bruins coach Claude Julien thinks he knows why forward Reilly Smith has just two goals in 11 games and earned a demotion to the fourth line for practice on Wednesday at Ristuccia Arena.
“He’s playing like a guy who came in late. [He’s] a little behind,” Julien said.
WILMINGTON, Mass. — Bruins coach Claude Julien said forward Brad Marchand left practice early at Ristuccia Arena on Wednesday because of an injury.
“I don’t know, obviously he tweaked something,” Julilen said. “I’m not going to say more on that because we hope he’ll be in our lineup tomorrow.”
BOSTON — The absence of defenseman Torey Krug because of a broken finger wasn’t the only news at practice at Ristuccia Arena on Wednesday.
Coach Claude Julien broke up the pair of Brad Marchand and Patrice Bergeron as part of a lineup shuffle.
WILMINGTON, Mass. — Bruins defenseman Torey Krug played 24:07 in the loss to the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday.
But he wasn’t on the ice when the Bruins were going for the equalizer with the extra attacker on the ice in the closing seconds.
As the Bruins were winding down practice Monday at TD Garden, the last drill of the day called for assistant coach Doug Houda to dole out punishments, in the form of pushups and other uncomfortable exercises, for mistakes in coverage during play.
After one battle ended, Houda turned behind him and ordered the “burgundies” to hit the deck and give him five pushups.
Unfortunately Bruins coach Claude Julien is too familiar with tragedies that occur in places that are near and dear to his heart.
Julien steered the Bruins through the aftermath of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombings, as the Bruins helped the city heal with a run to the Stanley Cup Final.
There’s life after blowing a 3-0 lead.
The Bruins learned that when they reported to training camp for a new season in 2010 and beyond. The San Jose Sharks are learning that now.
PROVIDENCE – Ever since Ryan Spooner flashed his speed and skill for the Bruins several years ago at rookie camp, questions have lingered about where he would fit in on the team in the future considering the depth Boston had at center.
Now that he’s played 32 NHL games at center, including five this season, Spooner’s place in the organization might be changing.
